These tapered trousers by Nife arrive with pressed creases at the front and the back. The leg narrows towards the ankle and ends in a short slit at the side. The waist sits at medium height and closes with a zip and a button.
You can choose black, navy blue or red in sizes 36 to 42. The fabric is 75% polyester, 23% viscose and 2% spandex, and the length is 98.5 to 100 cm.

The piece: three colours by Nife
Nife describes elegant trousers in a fitted cut for the office and for smart casual outfits. The three colours have their own model numbers: 217600 for black, 218897 for navy blue and 219766 for red. The description and the size table are the same.
The red deserves a note. In the photos it is a dark wine red, far from a bright red. It sits well next to the black and the navy as a third office colour.

Fabric and feel: polyester and viscose
The blend is 75% polyester, 23% viscose and 2% spandex. The maker says the material is comfortable to wear and leaves it at that. In the photos it is a smooth, matte suiting fabric that holds the crease as a sharp line.
Polyester is why the crease stays. Viscose softens the hand of the fabric. Two percent spandex is a small amount, enough to take the strain off the seat and the knees when you sit.
Fit and silhouette: fitted, narrowing to the ankle
The maker's table gives size 38 a waist of 77.5 cm, hips of 99.5 cm and a length of 99 cm. Size 42 has 85.5 and 107.5 cm at a length of 100 cm. Between sizes the waist and hips grow by 4 cm, and the length hardly changes.
The maker calls the cut fitted and tailored to the silhouette. On the model the trousers follow the hip, hang straight from the thigh and narrow below the knee. With heels the hem sits at the ankle. There is little stretch in this fabric, so if you are between sizes, the larger one is the comfortable choice.

Styling: the photos are a week of work outfits
The black pair is shown with a dusty pink blouse, with a black blouse, and under a black blazer as a suit. The navy is worn with a light blue blouse with ruffles. The wine red is paired with a dark green blouse, which is the combination we like most. Pointed pumps appear in every photo.
For Friday, swap the pumps for loafers or white trainers and the blouse for a fine knit. The slit at the hem lets the trousers fall cleanly over the top of a shoe.
Occasions
The maker names office styling and elegant casual outfits. These are trousers for client meetings, presentations and interviews. In wine red they also work for a dinner or a December party with a shiny top.

The maker's data has no care instructions, so go by the label sewn into the trousers.
To keep the creases sharp, hang the trousers upside down by the hems or fold them along the crease over a hanger.
The wow detail: the small slit at the hem
The maker calls it subtle, and it is. A few centimetres of the side seam are left open at the ankle. You see it when you walk and when you cross your legs. It loosens up a strict pair of trousers, and it gives a pointed shoe room to show.
