Tailored 7/8 trousers with a higher waist, in ten colours

Cabba makes these tailored 7/8 trousers for work and for every day that needs to look a bit sharper. They have a higher waist, a slim leg that stops above the ankle, pockets, and a fly with a button and a zip.

The fabric is 60% cotton with nylon and a little spandex. The length is 90 to 91 cm, and there are ten colours, from black and navy blue to red, green and white.

Cabba sells these through a Polish fashion wholesaler, which files them under formal trousers for ladies. The supplier's text is brief: button and zip fly with pockets, 7/8 legs, a higher top. Every colour has its own model number and the same size table.

Two of our colour buttons need explaining. "Red 2" is a burgundy in the photos, and "navy blue 2" is a bright cobalt blue. The supplier lists the newest colour as beige, but the photos show white, and that is what our button says.

Several photos show a blazer in the same fabric. It is a separate item.

Who it's for

For you if you need trousers for the office that you can also wear to dinner afterwards. The supplier mentions work, exams and meeting friends, which sums it up.

The 7/8 length shows the ankle. That works well with heels and with loafers, and it saves shorter women a trip to the tailor. If you are tall, the hem will sit higher on your calf.

Fabric and feel: cotton with nylon and stretch

The composition is 60% cotton, 35% nylon and 5% spandex. Cotton makes up most of it, the nylon adds strength, and the spandex gives the slim leg room to bend at the knee.

In the photos the cloth is smooth and matte and holds a clean line down the leg. The maker gives no fabric weight and doesn't mention a lining. With the white and the light grey, wear skin-tone underwear to be safe.

Fit and silhouette: slim, and honest about the table

The size table gives a length of 90 cm in size 36 and 91 cm in sizes 38 to 46. That part is clear.

The widths are less clear. The table has headings for hips and waist, but only one number per size: 76 cm in 36, then 82, 86, 90, 94 and 98 cm in 46. The maker doesn't say which of the two it is. The steps of four centimetres between sizes are still useful: if a 40 in similar trousers fits you, the 40 here is the place to start. For exact hip and waist figures, write to us and we will ask the supplier.

Styling: a white shirt is the start

Almost every photo pairs the trousers with a white shirt tucked in and pointed heels. It is the classic office outfit, and the red or the pink pair makes it less predictable.

The black and the navy blue are the workhorses. Wear them with a fine knit and loafers. The beige and the white suit spring, with a striped top and flat sandals.

If you like a suit, look at the photos with the matching blazer for the idea, and wear a jacket in a close colour.

Occasions

The supplier names work, exams and meetings with friends. We would add job interviews, presentations and graduation days. In black or navy blue they pass any office dress code.

The bright colours are for days when you want to be seen: a red pair at a reception, a green one at a Christmas lunch.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so follow the label sewn into the trousers.

For cotton-blend tailored trousers in general: wash inside out, hang them by the hem to dry and press along the leg while slightly damp.

The wow detail: the ankle

The 7/8 length is the whole trick. A few centimetres of ankle between hem and shoe make a formal pair of trousers look lighter and make your shoes part of the outfit. It is why the same pair works with stilettos in the photos and would work just as well with white trainers.
