A strapless wide-leg jumpsuit without a zip

This wide-leg jumpsuit by Italy Moda has no zip and no buttons. The top is gathered with elastic stitching, so you step in, pull it up and it stays put across the bust. Below the waist it opens into long, wide legs with a pocket on each side.

It is made of 100% viscose, which the maker calls breathable and soft. There is one size: 128 cm long, with 116 cm at the hips.

About the colour. The maker lists it as beige, and our colour option says beige too. In the photos, taken in bright light, it looks off-white. Expect something between the two: a warm white, not a snow white.

Who it's for

For you if you want one piece that makes an outfit in summer. Bare shoulders, covered legs: it works when a dress feels too much and trousers too little.

You need to be comfortable strapless. The gathered top holds, but it is a top without straps, and you will want a strapless bra or none.

Fabric and feel: pure viscose

The jumpsuit is 100% viscose. The maker describes it as breathable and soft and says it stays comfortable through the day. Viscose is a light fabric with a fluid drape, and you can see that in the way the legs hang in long folds.

Two honest notes. Light viscose can be see-through, and the maker says nothing about a lining, so plan on skin-tone underwear. And viscose creases, so the jumpsuit will look lived-in after a day of sitting.

Fit and size: one size, two measurements

The maker's table gives a length of 128 cm and a hip measurement of 116 cm. The chest and waist are left empty, which makes sense for a top that stretches.

So the hips and the length are what you can check. With 116 cm at the hips, the trousers part is roomy. We read the 128 cm as the distance from the top edge to the hem. Measure from your armpit down to the floor. If that distance is much shorter than 128 cm, the legs will be too long without heels.

Styling: gold-tone, tan and bare shoulders

The model wears clear heeled mules and nothing else of note, which lets the jumpsuit do the work. With a light colour and bare shoulders, warm accessories look good: a tan belt bag, gold-tone hoops, raffia sandals.

For the evening, add a short jacket over the shoulders and block heels. On the beach side of a holiday, wear it with flat sandals and let the hems skim the ground.

Occasions

The maker suggests everyday outings. We see it at a summer dinner, a garden party, a day in town on holiday. In a pale colour like this it could also work for a registry-office wedding, on the bride. As a guest, pick another colour.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so go by the label sewn into the jumpsuit. With viscose that matters, because it can shrink in a hot wash and is weaker when wet.

Don't wring it out. Hang it by the waist to dry and steam out the creases.

The wow detail: no fastening at all

Jumpsuits usually come with a long back zip that you can't reach on your own. This one has none. The rows of elastic stitching in the top stretch to let you in and close around you again. It makes getting dressed, and every bathroom visit, a lot simpler.
