Italy Moda Floral Blazer Set: Cropped Double-Breasted Blazer and Skort

A floral blazer set with a skort instead of a skirt

From the front this floral blazer set looks like a cropped jacket with a wrap mini skirt. The bottom half is a skort: a skirt panel over shorts, so you can sit on a bar stool or run for the tram without a second thought.

Italy Moda makes it in one size, S/M, in 95% polyester with 5% spandex. Two prints are available: white with grey and dusty pink flowers, and white with blue flowers.

The set comes from Italy Moda and is sold through a fashion wholesaler in Poland. You get two pieces. The first is a cropped blazer with lapels and a double-breasted closure, lined on the inside. The second is a high-waisted skort with elastic sewn into the back of the waistband.

The maker also mentions a decorative brooch that you can take off. We could not make it out in the photos, so we can't tell you what it looks like.

There is one size. The maker lists a chest of 102 cm, hips of 94 cm and a waist that stretches from 68 to 86 cm. If you usually wear L or larger, this set is likely to be too small.

Fabric and feel: polyester with stretch, lined jacket

The composition is 95% polyester and 5% spandex. The maker's text calls it a blend of polyester and elastane, which is the same thing under another name. The spandex is what lets one size cover a waist from 68 to 86 cm.

The blazer has a lining, so it slides over a top without clinging. In the photos the fabric holds the shape of the shoulders and the lapels well, and the print is sharp, with flowers the size of a hand.

Fit and silhouette: short on top, short below

The blazer stops at the waist and the skort starts there, so the set draws a clear line at your middle. On the model the skort ends high on the thigh.

The maker's table has one row. Chest 102 cm, hips 94 cm, waist 68-86 cm, and two lengths: 42 and 44 cm. The table does not say which length is the blazer and which the skort. Either way, both pieces are short. Compare the chest and hip numbers with a jacket and shorts you already own.

Styling: together or apart

Worn closed, as in the grey and blue photos, the blazer works as a top and you need nothing under it. Worn open it wants a plain bandeau or a fitted tank in one of the colours from the print.

Shoes change the mood. White trainers make it a city outfit, and block-heel sandals take it to a party. The pieces also work apart: the blazer over a plain slip dress, the skort with a white T-shirt on a hot day.

Occasions

The maker suggests everyday wear, work, meetings and parties. We would be a little more careful about work: the skort is short, so it suits a creative office more than a formal one. We like it most at a summer birthday, a wedding reception or a dinner on holiday.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so go by the labels sewn into the blazer and the skort. Take the brooch off before washing. A lined blazer keeps its shape longest on a hanger with wide shoulders.

The wow detail: the skirt that is a pair of shorts

The front panel of the skort overlaps like a wrap skirt and opens in a small slit. Nobody will guess there are shorts underneath. You get the line of a mini skirt and can still cycle home.
