Glossy platform ankle boots on a 10 cm block heel

These platform ankle boots by Step in Style shine like patent and stand on a block heel of 10 cm. The platform under the forefoot takes away part of that height, which is the reason a heel this tall can still be walked on.

The upper is faux leather with a glossy finish. The shaft is 21 cm high and hugs the ankle, there is a zip, and the inside is insulated with fabric at foot level. You can choose black or brown.

Step in Style is a footwear label we buy through a fashion wholesaler in Poland. Model 219264 is black and 219265 is brown. The supplier's text is the same for both: ankle boots with a shiny finish and decorative stitching on the upper, a stable block heel, a practical platform, a zip, and an interior insulated at foot level.

The supplier uses its own marketing word for the material; the attribute list says artificial leather, and we call it faux leather.

A word on the brown. In the photos it is a very dark red-brown, and in some light it reads as burgundy. Our colour button says Burgundy for that reason. The supplier's name for it is brown.

Who they're for

For you if you like a boot that people see. A glossy surface, a platform and a 10 cm heel together are hard to miss, and they turn a plain black dress into an outfit.

They are high. If you rarely wear heels, practise at home first. If you do wear them often, the wide heel and the platform will feel steadier than a pump of the same height.

The supplier gives the heel height and no separate height for the platform. The sole material is not stated either.

Materials and build: glossy faux leather, lined at the foot

The upper is artificial leather with a shiny finish, as the maker lists it. It is not patent leather, though it has that mirror-like look. In the photos the material is thin and supple enough to follow the ankle like a sock, with fine creases that move as the model walks.

Inside, the boot is insulated with fabric at foot level. The supplier says that makes it suitable for cooler days. It says nothing about rain or snow, so we do not either.

Size and dimensions: insole length per size

The maker's table is the same for both colours. The insole is 23.5 cm in size 36 and 24 cm in 37. Size 38 jumps a full centimetre to 25 cm, and from there each size adds half a centimetre, up to 26.5 cm in size 41.

Measure your foot standing and compare. The shaft is close-fitting and 21 cm high, and the supplier gives no width for it. The zip runs the height of the shaft in the photos, which makes getting in easy even with a narrow ankle fit.

Styling: matte next to shine

Glossy boots come out well next to matte fabrics. Think of a knitted dress, opaque tights, a long matte coat or dark jeans. The supplier suggests both trousers and a dress, and both work.

With trousers, choose a cropped or narrow leg so the shaft stays visible, or let a wide leg fall over the boot and show only the toe and the platform. With a dress, a hem above the knee keeps the proportions light against the heavy sole.

Occasions

These are evening boots first: a party, a concert, a dinner, New Year's Eve. With jeans and a big jumper they also do a Saturday in town, as long as you are used to the height.

Care: no instructions from the maker

The maker's data we receive has no care instructions for these boots. If a care card comes in the box, follow it.

Glossy surfaces show fingerprints and scuffs sooner than matte ones. Keep the boots apart in storage, for example each in its own bag, so the shiny sides do not stick to or rub against each other.

The wow detail: the shine

Everything on this boot is one colour and one material, and the gloss does all the talking. Light runs along the creases at the ankle and over the round toe, so the boot changes as you move. In the dark brown that effect is warmer; in black it is sharp and graphic.
