It looks like a thick white coaster with a flat plate in the middle and one button at the front (photos). The supplier's photo text explains the idea: a calibrated ultrasonic vibration passes through water and into the beer, and that shakes loose the gas to make small, even bubbles. So expect to wet the plate before you set the glass on it, and follow the instructions in the box.

One correction to the supplier text: it also talks about dipping the frother into the glass. The photos and the size show a base you stand the glass on, and that is what we describe here.

Materials and build

The supplier lists the housing as ABS + PC, two common hard plastics for small appliances, in white. The battery has a built-in protection plate, which is the supplier's term for the circuit that guards the battery.

Size: which glasses fit

The size drawing shows 12.3 cm across and 3.1 cm high; the supplier's text gives 123 x 32 mm. A standard pint glass or a tulip glass stands easily on a plate that size. Very wide or footed glasses may not sit flat, so check the bottom of your favourite glass.

Styling: part of the home bar

The supplier suggests a small marble tray or a wooden board next to your glasses, and we agree: white on dark wood looks tidy. Keep it out when friends come over; pouring a round becomes a small show.

Football night, a barbecue, Father's Day, or a birthday for the friend who brews his own beer. Enjoy it responsibly, and keep it out of reach of children.

Care

The supplier gives no care instructions. Wipe the plate dry after use with a soft cloth, and never put the base under the tap or in the dishwasher, because there is a battery inside.
