Figl took the shape of a sports top and made it in fine corduroy. This corduroy half-zip sweatshirt has a stand-up collar, a short decorative zip at the neck and elastic at the cuffs and the hem. It looks relaxed and a bit dressed at once.

The total length is 60 cm in S and 61.5 cm in XL. It comes in pink, blue and beige, in sizes S to XL.

Figl sells this top through a Polish fashion wholesaler, in the sweatshirt category. The supplier's own text calls it a corduroy blouse with a stand-up collar and a decorative zip, with long sleeves and a bottom finished with an elastic band. Each colour has its own model number and the same size table.

A word on the colours. The supplier calls the first one pink. In the photos it is a deep berry pink, and our colour button says mauve. The blue is a muted grey-blue. The beige is light, close to cream.

In the photos the model wears trousers in the same corduroy. Those are a separate item and are not part of this product.

For you if you live in sweatshirts and want one that doesn't look like gym wear. The corduroy and the gold-tone zip make it presentable enough for a casual office.

It also suits you if you like a top with room in it. The chest measures 102 cm in S, and the body blouses over the elastic hem, so nothing sits tight on the stomach.

The collar works two ways in the photos: zipped up so it stands around the neck, or open and folded back like a wide lapel.

Fabric and feel: fine corduroy with stretch

The composition is 65% polyester, 30% nylon and 5% spandex. So this is a corduroy made from synthetic fibres, with some stretch from the spandex. It contains no cotton.

In the photos the ribs are narrow and the surface has a soft sheen when the light hits it. The fabric drapes in folds at the elbows and above the hem. The maker gives no fabric weight.

Fit and silhouette: roomy, gathered at the hip

The size table gives a chest of 102 cm in S, 106 cm in M, 110 cm in L and 114 cm in XL. The total length runs from 60 cm to 61.5 cm, half a centimetre more per size.

The fit is loose in the body and the sleeves. The elastic hem holds the top at the hip and lets the fabric fall over it. Take your usual size for the look in the photos. If you are between sizes and want it neater, the smaller one will still have room.

Styling: zip up or fold open

The photos show two ways. Zipped to the top, the collar frames the face and you need no scarf. Open, with a white T-shirt underneath, it looks softer.

Wear the beige with wide jeans and white trainers. The blue goes well with grey tailored trousers. The pink is the strongest colour of the three; we would keep the rest plain, in cream or dark jeans.

Small gold-tone earrings pick up the zip.

Occasions

This is a top for ordinary days that you want to feel a bit better dressed for. Think of working from home with a video call at eleven, a Saturday at the market, or a train journey.

It is also a good travelling companion. The fabric doesn't look creased in the photos, even where it gathers.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so follow the label sewn into the top.

For corduroy in general: wash inside out and close the zip, so the ribs don't rub flat against other clothes.

The wow detail: the ring on the zip

The zip is short, gold-toned and ends in a round ring pull. Against the matte ribs of the corduroy it is the one shiny point on the whole top. It sits right under the chin when the collar is closed, like a small pendant you never have to remember to put on.
