A high-waist pencil skirt in three pastel colours

Figl calls this a classic, fitted pencil skirt with a high waist, and that is what the photos show. The skirt runs straight and close from the waist to the hem. On the model the hem sits at the knee.

You can choose from a pale yellow, a soft pink and a light blue. The fabric is 65% polyester and 35% viscose, and the sizes go from S to XL.

At the wholesaler each colour has its own number: 43906 is yellow, 43907 is pink and 43908 is blue. The description, the composition and the size table are identical for all three, so this page covers one skirt in three shades.

A note on the yellow. Our colour button calls it Beige, the maker calls it yellow, and in the photos it is a pale, buttery yellow. If you order Beige, that is the colour you get.

The maker mentions four spring colours. We carry three of them.

Who it's for

For you if you wear pencil skirts to work and are tired of black, navy and grey. A pastel does the same job with a lighter mood.

The cut is fitted, so your hip measurement matters as much as your waist. The maker's table starts at a waist of 66 to 69 cm in S and ends at 78 to 81 cm in XL.

The maker's data gives no length in centimetres and does not say how the skirt closes, whether it is lined or whether there is a slit at the back. The photos are too small to settle it. Ask us if you need to know, and we will put the question to the supplier.

Fabric and feel: polyester with viscose

The composition is 65% polyester and 35% viscose. The maker lists no stretch fibre, so don't count on stretch. In the photos the fabric lies smooth over the hips and keeps a clean line down to the hem.

Light colours show more than dark ones. With the yellow and the pink, skin-tone underwear without visible seams is the safe choice.

Fit and silhouette: measure waist and hips

Because the fabric has no stretch, take both measurements before you order. Size M is listed with hips of 96 to 98 cm and a waist of 70 to 73 cm; size L with 99 to 102 cm and 74 to 77 cm.

If your waist points to one size and your hips to the next, follow the hips. A pencil skirt that is too tight there rides up when you walk, and a waist that is slightly loose is easy to live with under a tucked-in top.

Source: the maker's size table, the same for all three colours. The ranges read like body measurements, but the table does not say so. It gives no length.

Styling: white, cream and navy

The photos pair every colour with a white tank top and pointed pumps. That works because a pastel skirt needs a calm partner.

For the office, try a white shirt or a thin cream knit, tucked in so the high waist shows. The blue skirt takes a navy blazer well. The pink is nice with grey. Keep the shoes simple and close to your skin tone or to the top, as in the photos.

Occasions

The maker describes these as spring colours, and that is when we would wear them most: office days from March on, a communion or a christening, a lunch outdoors. Sold here in autumn, the blue is the one that carries over most easily, with dark tights and a dark knit.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so go by the label sewn into the skirt. Viscose blends can shrink in a hot wash, which is one more reason to read the label before the first wash.

The wow detail: an office cut in an ice-cream colour

Nothing about the shape is unusual. The surprise is the colour: a skirt this strict normally comes in dark shades, and here it comes in yellow, pink and blue. Same rules, friendlier result.
