This black and white midi skirt from Tessita is cut as a circle, the way full skirts were in the 1950s. Black zigzag stripes run around a white ground, and because the skirt is so wide at the hem, the pattern ripples when you walk.
It is 100% cotton and 85 cm long in every size. On the model that is mid-calf. A decorative zip closes it at the back.

The piece: model 143237 by Tessita
Tessita describes this skirt as a nod to the 1950s, and the shape says the same. A flat waistband sits at the waist and the fabric opens out from there into a full circle.
The maker writes that the cut and the fabric make the skirt look sensational in motion. That is sales talk, but there is something true in it: a circle cut has more fabric at the hem than any other skirt shape, so it swings. Add a graphic print and you notice every step.
The supplier files the colour as black. In the photos it is clearly a two-colour print, about half black and half white.
Who it's for
For you if you like a defined waist and room everywhere below it. A circle skirt only needs to fit at the waistband, which makes it forgiving on hips and thighs.
It also helps if you enjoy a print. This one is bold from across the street and calm in its colours, so it goes with most of what you already own.

Fabric and feel: all cotton, no stretch listed
The composition is 100% cotton. There is no elastane in the list, so count on a waistband that does not give. In the photos the fabric has some body: the skirt stands away from the legs in soft cones instead of hanging limp.
The supplier gives no fabric weight and does not name the weave. Cotton with this kind of body is usually comfortable from spring to early autumn, and with tights it carries on after that.
Fit and silhouette: measure your waist, forget the rest
Only one number decides your size here. The maker gives a waist of 70 cm for S, 76 cm for M, 82 cm for L and 88 cm for XL. Measure where you want the band to sit and pick the size at or just above that.
Length is 85 cm in all four sizes. If you are shorter than the model it will reach lower on the calf, and if you are taller it will sit just under the knee.

Styling: keep the top plain
The photos pair it with a white short-sleeved top and pink heeled sandals. That is the classic answer and a good one, because a full printed skirt wants something plain and fitted above it.
The maker says it also works casual or sporty, and I agree. A black T-shirt tucked in and white trainers take it to the weekend. For the office, try a fine black knit and pointed flats. A short jacket that stops at the waist keeps the shape; a long one hides it.
Occasions
Wear it to a garden party, a lunch, a day at the office or a summer wedding as a guest (it is mostly white, so check with the couple if you are unsure). It is a good skirt for dancing because of how it moves.
On a windy day by the sea, a circle skirt has a mind of its own. You have been warned.
Care: follow the label
The maker's data has no care instructions, so follow the label sewn into the skirt. With a black print on white we would wash it with light colours and not leave it wet in the machine, but the label has the last word.
The wow detail: stripes on a circle
A zigzag on a straight skirt is a pattern. On a circle it becomes movement, because the stripes bend with every fold of the fabric. Look at the back view: the lines break and meet again as the skirt falls. Standing still it is graphic, and walking it is something close to a small optical trick.
