A velour bodysuit that works as an evening top
This velour bodysuit from Badu is made to be seen from the waist up. The top part is soft velour with a heart-shaped neckline, gathered at the sides, with a thin sparkling trim tracing the underside of the cups. Below the waist it turns into a plain black brief that disappears into your trousers or skirt.
It comes in sizes S, M and L and in four colours: brown, beige, green and black.

The piece: four models by Badu
Badu lists the bodysuit as models 196743 (brown), 196744 (beige), 196745 (green) and 196746 (black). In the photos the brown is a golden caramel, the beige is pale and cool (our button calls it "Taupe") and the green is a dark bottle green.
Three things on this page differ from what you may have read before. Our old title said the bodysuit had no seams; it has visible ruched seams at the sides. The maker's text says strapless; the photos show thin shoulder straps with adjusters. And the wholesaler files it under shapewear, while the description claims no shaping effect, so neither do we.
Who it's for
For you if you want a going-out top that stays tucked in all night. That is the real advantage of a bodysuit: nothing rides up when you raise your arms or sit down.
The cut is close and the neckline is open, so it suits you if you are comfortable with both.

The maker does not say how the bodysuit closes between the legs and gives no length. Ask us if you need to know.
Fabric and feel: velour in a polyester blend
The maker's table gives 78% polyester, 10% cotton, 10% viscose and 2% spandex. The description calls the fabric velour and says it is pleasant to the touch. In the photos the pile catches the light along the gathers, which gives the colours their depth.
The brief part looks like a different, smooth fabric. The maker gives one composition for the whole garment and does not split it out.
Fit and silhouette: go by the chest
The only measurement the maker gives is the chest: 82 cm in S, 86 cm in M and 91 cm in L. There is no length, and with a bodysuit that matters for a long torso.
The straps have adjusters, which helps with the vertical fit. If you are tall or between sizes, the larger size is the safer choice. The gathers at the sides will take up any extra width.

Styling: under a blazer or on its own
The maker suggests wearing it solo or under a jacket or blazer. One photo shows it with black high-waisted trousers and clear heels, and that is the easiest way in.
The caramel brown is lovely with cream trousers. The green wants black or dark jeans blue. With a blazer on, only the neckline and the trim show, which makes it office-proof for a Friday.
Occasions
The maker mentions business meetings and dinners. We would start with the dinners: a date, a birthday, drinks in December, New Year's Eve. Velour is a winter-party fabric and this is a winter-party top.
Care: follow the label
The maker's data has no care instructions, so follow the label sewn into the bodysuit. Velour in general is washed inside out and dried without heat, and a laundry bag protects the sparkle trim.
The wow detail: the line under the cups
A fine row of sparkle runs in two curves under the bust, like the wire line of a bra drawn on the outside. It is small, and it is what makes the bodysuit look like eveningwear and not like a vest top. On the dark green it shows up the most.
