This cotton lounge set is two pieces that feel like weekend clothes and look like an outfit: an oversized sweatshirt and wide trousers that flare out at the hem. The trousers have an elastic waist, the sweatshirt has ribbed cuffs, and both are 95% cotton.

The set comes from Makadamia and reaches us through the maker's wholesale partner in Poland: model 209640 in black, model 209638 in beige. A blue version is no longer made. Both pieces come together as one set.

The maker describes an oversized sweatshirt with long sleeves, a classic round neckline and ribbed cuffs, and loose, wide trousers with an elastic waistband that flare out at the bottom. In the photos the shoulders drop low, the sleeves gather softly into the cuffs and the sweatshirt ends at the hip. The trousers fall wide from the hip to the floor, and the model has a hand in a pocket.

Who it's for

For you if your weekends move between the sofa, the market and a coffee with friends, and you would rather not change three times. The maker suggests exactly that mix: relaxing at home, meeting friends, shopping and everyday wear.

It also suits you if you like the comfort of a tracksuit but not the sporty look. The flared trousers and the plain round neck keep it closer to a knit outfit than to gym clothes.

Fabric and feel: 95% cotton sweatshirt fabric

The composition is 95% cotton and 5% spandex. The maker calls it a soft sweatshirt material that is pleasant to the touch. The small share of spandex gives the fabric a little stretch.

Both pieces are made of the same fabric, so the set reads as one colour from top to hem.

Fit: oversized on top, wide below

The maker's size table: in size 36 the sweatshirt is 64 cm long and the trousers 102 cm; in 38 that is 66 and 104 cm; in 40 it is 68 and 106 cm. The chest is 124, 128 and 132 cm, which is the roomy cut of the sweatshirt, not a body measurement. Waist and hips are 88 and 92 cm in 36, 92 and 96 cm in 38, 96 and 100 cm in 40.

Because the sweatshirt is meant to be loose, pick your size by the trousers: compare the hips and the trouser length with a pair of wide trousers that fits you. The size buttons show which sizes and colours the maker can still ship.

Styling: trainers by day, boots by night

The photos show the easiest version: the full set with white trainers, as the maker suggests. In black it looks sharp enough for a casual lunch; in beige it is softer and lighter.

Split it up, too. Wear the trousers with a tucked-in tee and a long coat, or the sweatshirt over jeans. For a cooler evening, add ankle boots with a block heel under the flared hems and a long coat on top.

Cotton sweatshirt fabric in general likes a cool wash inside out and drying on a line. Wash the black set with dark colours so it stays dark.
