A square neckline dress with long sleeves, for the cold months

Numoco calls this square neckline dress Ivana. It has long straight sleeves, a bodice that follows your shape and a skirt that flares gently from the waist. On the model the hem sits just above the knee.

It comes in chocolate brown and in black, in 90% polyester with 10% spandex, and the maker says it was sewn in Poland.

Numoco sells its dresses through a fashion wholesaler in Poland. The brown and the black dress have separate model numbers and separate descriptions there, but the cut, the fabric and the size table are the same, so we show them on one page.

The maker describes a soft, elastic material and a slightly flared cut that leaves you free to move. For the black one the text adds that the fabric resists creasing. We pass that on as the maker's claim. One correction: the black dress is called a midi in the supplier text, but at 92 to 100 cm it ends above the knee on the model, just like the brown one.

Who it's for

For you if you want one dress that goes to work on Tuesday and to dinner on Friday. The shape is simple enough for both, and long sleeves mean you do not need a cardigan indoors.

It also suits you if you like a defined top and room around the hips. The skirt stands away from the body, so it does not cling when you sit or walk.

The maker does not mention a zip, and none is visible in the photos. With 10% spandex the dress may simply pull on. Ask us before you order if you want to be sure.

Fabric and feel: stretch with a little texture

The composition is 90% polyester and 10% spandex. Ten percent is a generous share of stretch, and it explains why the maker calls the material elastic. The bodice can sit close without feeling tight.

In the photos the surface is not flat. It has a fine raised texture that you see most clearly on the brown dress, where the light picks it out. In black it reads as a matte, even surface.

Fit and silhouette: fitted top, flared skirt

The table below is the maker's. Size S is 92 cm long with a chest of 80 cm; M is 93 cm and 86 cm; L is 94 cm and 92 cm; XL is 96 cm and 100 cm. The black dress also comes in XXL, at 100 cm long with a chest of 104 cm.

You may notice that the waist figure is larger than the chest in every size, for example 82 cm against 80 cm in S. That fits the cut: the dress starts to widen right under the bust, so the waist is measured on the loose part. Choose your size by the chest and let the skirt do the rest.

Styling: boots or heels

The maker says the dress looks good with both boots and heels. The photos show the heel version, with clear sandals, a short necklace and bracelets over the sleeve.

For the boot version, try knee-high boots and tights in the colour of the dress, so the line runs from shoulder to toe. The square neckline leaves room for a necklace that sits on the collarbone. A long pendant would fight with it.

Occasions

The maker names work, meetings, a walk or a coffee with a friend, and for the black one evening outings too. The season is autumn, winter and early spring. In chocolate brown it feels made for October; in black it will take you through December parties.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so go by the label sewn into the dress. A general habit for stretch fabrics is to wash them inside out and dry them on a hanger, which keeps the texture of the surface fresh.

The wow detail: the neckline

A square neckline with long sleeves is a rare pairing. Most dresses that cover the arms also close up at the neck. This one opens wide and straight across, showing the collarbones, while everything else stays covered. It is the reason the dress looks dressed up without any decoration.
