This large faux leather tote bag is soft and unstructured, with two long shoulder straps and a magnetic snap at the top. The supplier lists the outside as PU and the lining as polyester.

There is no frame and no stiff base in this bag. In the photos it folds where you hold it and slouches against the hip when it hangs from the shoulder. The straps are thin and come in pairs, and they continue down the front and back as seams.

The surface is glossy with fine creases, a bit like a jacket that has been worn for a while. We sell the bag without a brand, because the supplier data names no maker.

Who it's for

For you if you carry more than a small handbag holds and you like a bag without hardware and logos. At about 0.22 kg it adds very little weight of its own.

The supplier says nothing about inner pockets or a laptop compartment, so count on one open space. If you want your keys and phone in a fixed place, add a pouch.

Material and feel: PU, not hide

The supplier's text and spec card both say PU. That is a faux leather: a coated fabric with a leather look. The supplier platform uses the word leather in its title, but we read that as a category name and sell the bag as faux leather.

The lining is polyester. The glossy finish catches the light, which you see most on the black and the blue bag in the photos.

Size and dimensions: about 42 cm wide

The supplier's chart gives about 42 x 29 x 10 cm. Going by the photos, 42 cm is the width and 29 cm the height. The handle drop of 20 cm is the distance from the top of the strap to the top of the bag, which is enough to wear it on the shoulder over a coat in the photos.

Because the bag is soft, the 10 cm depth is a guide. It bulges when full and lies flat when empty.

Styling: five colours, worn with plain clothes

The supplier's photos pair the off-white bag with a brown skirt and black loafers, the blue one with a black blazer and the dark wine red with a black coat. The black bag hangs next to a beige blazer.

What these looks share is plain clothing, so the shine of the bag is the only gloss in the outfit. One note: our gallery has no photo of the brown bag yet.

Occasions

Take it to work with your lunch and a cardigan inside, or use it as your bag for a day in town. It also works as the extra bag on a weekend away, since it weighs so little and folds flat in a suitcase.

Care: wipe, don't wash

The supplier gives no care instructions. As general practice for PU, wipe marks off with a soft damp cloth and let the bag dry in the air. Keep it away from heaters, and stuff it with paper when you store it so the creases stay fine.

The finish is what sets this tote apart from a fabric shopper. It reflects light along every fold, so the bag looks different each time it moves. On the dark colours the effect is the strongest.
