The piece: a button-up vest by Serene Styles
The supplier calls it a sherpa fleece vest coat with buttons and pockets. The spec list adds 100% polyester, thickness normal, body not lined, imported.
Sherpa is the curly pile fabric that in Dutch shops usually goes by teddy. In the photos you can see the curls clearly. A smooth binding in a matching colour runs down the front edge, and the buttons close with long tabs instead of plain buttonholes. The neckline is round, without a collar, so a shirt collar underneath sits neatly on top.
Who it's for
For you if you like layers and want your arms free: driving, cycling, working at a desk in a chilly room, walking the dog. And for you if shops often stop at XL. This vest goes up to 5XL, with a bust of 140 cm in the largest size.
Closer look: buttons, binding and pockets
- Button front (supplier); the photos show 4 large buttons with tab closures
- 2 front pockets (supplier: pocketed; photos)
- Sleeveless, round neckline without collar (photos)
- Smooth binding along the front edge (photos)
- Curly sherpa pile, 100% polyester (supplier and photos)
- Not lined (supplier)
Fabric and feel: curly polyester pile
The fabric is 100% polyester. The supplier rates the thickness as normal and says the body is not lined, so think of it as a mid-weight layer. We make no claims about how it holds up against wind or rain, because the supplier makes none.
Pile fabrics like this one feel soft to the hand. They also pick up lint, so the black one will need a brush now and then.
Fit and silhouette: straight and roomy
The cut is straight and generous. Size M has a bust of 110 cm and a length of 61 cm; size 3XL has a bust of 130 cm and a length of 65 cm. In the photos the hem ends at the hip. Each size adds about 5 cm in the bust and 1 cm in length.
Remember that you wear it over something. If your thickest jumper has to fit underneath, compare the bust figure with that jumper laid flat and doubled. The supplier lists the chart in inches; we converted it and rounded to one decimal.
Size chart (cm)
| Size | Length | Bust |
|---|---|---|
| S | 59.9 | 104.9 |
| M | 61 | 110 |
| L | 62 | 115.1 |
| XL | 63 | 119.9 |
| 2XL | 64 | 125 |
| 3XL | 65 | 130 |
| 4XL | 66 | 134.9 |
| 5XL | 67.1 | 140 |

Styling: over a shirt, over a knit
The photos show it over a white shirt with the collar out and blue jeans, and that works in all four colours. Over a fine turtleneck it looks a little smarter. The brown and beige ones suit cream, camel and faded blue. The deep red one is the colour to choose if most of your wardrobe is black or navy.
Occasions
Wear it on autumn walks, at the school gate, on a market morning or at home when the heating is still off. Under a roomy coat it adds a layer in winter. It is casual, so it fits a relaxed office and not a formal one.
Care: cold and gentle
The supplier's instructions: machine wash cold, tumble dry low. Close the buttons before washing so the tabs do not pull. A low dryer setting matters here, because high heat can flatten a polyester pile.
The wow detail: the tab closures
Plenty of teddy vests close with a zip. This one has four oversized buttons, each held by a long tab on the bound edge. It gives the front a slightly old-fashioned, duffle-coat feel that we like, and it means you can leave the top one open over a collar.
Look good, do good
