This faux fur gilet by AT is a sleeveless layer with a long, soft pile, a lining and two pockets. It has no buttons or zip. You wear it open over a jumper, a hoodie or a knit dress.

The fur is imitation fur, 100% polyester. It comes in thirteen colours and three double sizes, from S/M to 2XL/3XL.

AT sells through a Polish fashion wholesaler, which lists every colour of this gilet as its own model. The description is the same for all of them: a casual fur vest of soft polyester with pockets and a lining, meant for autumn and early winter.

The supplier's colour names repeat: two pinks, two browns, two beiges and three greens. The photos sort them out. The pinks are a dusty pink and a fuchsia. The browns are a camel and a rust. One beige is a true beige and the other is white. The greens are a dark green, a soft mint and a turquoise. Grey, peach orange, pale yellow and blue complete the list.

Who it's for

For you if a coat is too much and a jumper alone is too little. A gilet keeps your body covered and leaves your arms free, which is why it works for driving, cycling to the shops and the school gate.

It is also for anyone who likes colour. Fuchsia, peach and turquoise are not shy, and grey, beige and camel are there if you want it calm.

Fabric and feel: imitation fur in polyester

The composition is 100% polyester. The supplier describes the material as soft and pleasant to the touch and says the gilet gives warmth on colder days. No animal fur is involved.

In the photos the pile is long and glossy and lies in horizontal bands, which gives the surface its striped, layered look. The inside is lined, so the gilet slides on easily over knitwear.

Fit and sizing: three double sizes, no chart

The gilet comes in S/M, L/XL and 2XL/3XL. The maker's size table has no measurements, so we cannot give you centimetres.

An open gilet without fastening is forgiving, because nothing has to close. In the photos it hangs straight from the shoulder to the hip with room for a thick hoodie underneath. Pick the double size that includes your usual size; if you plan to wear it over heavy layers and are at the top of a range, go up.

Styling: match it or clash it

The photos mostly go tone on tone: the grey gilet over a grey sweat dress, mint over a mint hoodie, yellow over a yellow cable jumper. That makes a bright colour look deliberate.

The rust brown one is shown the other way, over a black top with a leopard skirt and cowboy boots. Both approaches work. What matters is that the layer underneath is fairly slim in the sleeve, so your arms do not look padded.

Occasions

The supplier calls it a casual piece for autumn and early winter. Wear it on dry, cool days outside, or indoors in a draughty office or cafe. Long-pile polyester and rain are not friends, so take a coat when the forecast is wet.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so go by the label sewn into the gilet. Imitation fur in general does not like heat: a tumble dryer or a radiator can mat the pile. Shake it out and brush it lightly with your fingers after wearing.

The wow detail: thirteen colours of the same pile

Most fur-look gilets come in brown, black and cream. This one also comes in pale yellow, peach, fuchsia and turquoise, and the long pile makes those colours look soft instead of loud. Because the bands of pile catch the light one by one, even the grey has depth.
