A cropped oversized sweater with a boat neck and wide sleeves

Moe cut this cropped oversized sweater short and wide on purpose. It ends at the waist, the sleeves stop at three-quarter length and stand open, and the boat neck sits wide on the shoulders. The fabric is a soft knit of 50% cotton and 50% polyester.

The total length is 46 cm in S/M and 53 cm in 2XL/3XL. There are three designs: wide pink and orange stripes, a floral print, and white with dark stripes.

The piece: one shape, three designs

Moe is a Polish label, and the supplier states that this top was designed and sewn in Poland. The wholesaler files it under blouses and calls it a sweater in one description and a blouse in the next. We call it a sweater, because it is made of knit fabric and you pull it on.

The three model numbers stand for the three designs. 209285 is the pink and orange stripe, 209286 is the floral print on a white ground, and 209287 is white with narrow dark stripes. Cut, fabric and size table are the same.

Our colour buttons still say "multicolor", "multicolor 2" and "multicolor 3", in that same order. The photos next to each button show you which is which.

Who it's for

For you if you wear high waists. A top that stops at the waistband shows the skirt or trousers underneath, and that is the whole idea here.

It is also for you if you like room around the arms and chest. The smallest size already measures 118 cm around the chest. If you want a top that covers your hips, this one is too short.

Fabric and feel: half cotton, half polyester

The composition is 50% cotton and 50% polyester. The supplier calls it a soft knit that is comfortable through the day. In the photos the fabric has body: the sleeves hold their wide shape and the hem hangs straight and doesn't curl.

That tells you it is closer to a sweatshirt jersey than to a fine jumper knit. The maker gives no fabric weight, and there is no stretch fibre in the composition.

Fit and silhouette: wide on top, short on purpose

There are three double sizes. S/M has a chest of 118 cm and a total length of 46 cm. L/XL has 126 cm and 51 cm. 2XL/3XL has 134 cm and 53 cm.

Those chest figures are large, so you don't need to size up for an oversized look; it is built in. Length is the number to check. Measure from the top of your shoulder down and see where 46 or 51 cm lands on you. On a longer torso the hem will sit above the waistband.

Styling: short over long

In every photo the sweater is worn over a high-waisted pencil skirt that ends below the knee, with heeled sandals. The proportion works: a wide short top over a long narrow skirt.

The supplier also suggests jeans and sporty trousers. High-waisted wide jeans and white trainers make the striped versions casual. The floral print looks good with plain trousers in one of its own colours.

Keep necklaces short. The boat neck is wide, and a long chain would fight with it.

Occasions

The supplier names both casual and more elegant occasions. We see the pink and orange stripe at a weekend lunch or a day in town. The white with dark stripes is the office one, over tailored trousers.

The floral print can go to a garden party or a spring birthday with a plain skirt. Three-quarter sleeves make it a top for mild days and heated rooms.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so follow the label sewn into the sweater.

For printed and brightly striped knits in general: wash inside out with similar colours, so the colours keep their edge.

The wow detail: sleeves like a kimono

Look at the first photo. With the arm bent, the sleeve opens into a wide rectangle that hangs away from the forearm. It gives the top its shape more than the body does. Lift your arms and the whole silhouette changes, and that is fun to wear.
