This black lace crop top is for the days you want trousers and a top to read as one outfit. Sublevel cut it to end at the waist, gave it a V-neck and wide lace straps, and put a lining inside. The lace does all the decorating; you only have to pick the trousers.

The maker makes it in 93% polyamide and 7% spandex, a light material with some stretch. Sizes run from XS to XL.

In the black photos the lace has a floral pattern with a scalloped edge along the neckline and the hem. The straps are wide strips of the same lace, and the back drops into a deep V.

The maker's data mentions no zip, hooks or buttons, and the photos show none. With the stretch in the material it looks like a top you simply pull over your head.

Fabric and feel: polyamide lace with 7% spandex

The composition is 93% polyamide and 7% spandex. The maker calls the material lightweight and elastic. The spandex is what lets a close top like this follow your shape instead of standing away from it.

The top has a lining. The maker does not list the lining fabric separately, so we cannot tell you what it is made of; the composition above is the one the maker gives for the top.

Fit: close to the body, ending at the waist

The maker's size table gives one measurement, the chest: 78 cm in XS, 82 cm in S, 86 cm in M, 91 cm in L and 96 cm in XL. It does not say whether that is the garment or the body, so lay a close-fitting top you like flat, measure across the chest, double the number and compare.

On the model the top ends at the waistband of her high-waisted trousers. With low-rise jeans it shows more skin; with a high-waisted skirt it meets the band. If you are between two sizes, the stretch makes the smaller one an option; if you like it a little looser, take the larger.

Styling: lace with tailoring

The black photos show the easiest way to wear it: camel trousers with a high waist, and nothing else. Lace looks softer next to a smooth fabric, so tailored trousers, a midi skirt or dark straight jeans all work.

For the evening, wear a black blazer open over it and add small gold-tone earrings. On a warm day the maker suggests jeans or an elegant skirt, and we would add flat sandals and a straw bag. Keep the neckline clear; the lace edge is already the detail.
