These herringbone tights by Fiore are knitted in a grey melange with a zigzag pattern that runs over the whole leg. At 60 DEN they are opaque enough for cold months, and the pattern has a slight 3D feel.

Fiore describes these as melange tights with a geometric, soft 3D pattern. Herringbone is the classic tweed pattern, and here it is knitted into the tights themselves. The maker points out that the pattern covers the entire knit, including the seat, so there is no plain panty section breaking it up below the waistband.

We have one photo. It shows the pattern clearly from hip to knee, with a plain black band at the waist.

Materials: a three-fibre knit

The composition is 53% polyamide, 35% polyester and 12% spandex. Two yarns in different tones give the melange effect, and the spandex gives the stretch.

Fiore calls this a warm edition. Sixty DEN is a medium weight: clearly thicker than sheer tights, thinner than thermal ones. We would call them tights for cool days and leave "warm" to the maker.

Size and fit: by hip measurement

Fiore gives hip ranges: 96-108 cm for 2-S, 100-120 cm for 3-M and 112-124 cm for 4-L. Size 3-M covers a wide range, so most women between S and L will land there.

Patterned tights look right when the pattern is not stretched out of shape. If you are at the top of a range, go up.

Styling: one pattern at a time

The maker suggests them for autumn and winter outfits. Plain pieces work well here: a black knitted dress, a grey skirt, a camel coat, black ankle boots.

With a tweed or checked skirt it gets busy. We would let the tights be the only pattern.

Care: follow the packaging

The maker's data has no care instructions; check the packaging. Tights generally keep their stretch longer when washed cool in a laundry bag and dried flat.

The wow detail: the pattern does not stop

On many patterned tights the design ends at mid-thigh and a plain panty takes over. Here the herringbone carries on over the hips and the seat. Under a short skirt or a dress with a slit, you never see a line where the pattern stops.
