These animal print sneakers are low lace-ups in the shape of a classic court shoe, with the print doing the work a colour would normally do. You can choose leopard on brown, zebra on cream or a fine dotted print on brown.

Inside is a memory foam insole that you can take out. Sizes run from 36 to 41, with an insole length of 23 to 26.5 cm.

The Polish wholesaler lists these under its footwear label Step in Style. The description it supplies talks about the collection BIG STAR SHOES by Daniel Lopez, a designer who, in the supplier's words, puts beauty and comfort first. We pass that on as the supplier's statement; the label on the tongue is too small to read in the photos.

The supplier names the colours brown, beige and brown again. The photos show what that means: a leopard print with brown trim, a zebra print on cream with black trim, and a brown pair with a small dotted print and a white line along the side.

Who they're for

For you if your wardrobe is mostly plain and you want one loud thing at the bottom of it. Animal print on a flat sneaker is easier to wear than on a coat or a dress, because there is so little of it.

The removable insole is useful if you wear your own orthotic insoles or simply like to air your shoes.

Materials and build: what the supplier does and doesn't say

The one material the supplier is specific about is the insole: memory foam, which moulds to the foot, and removable so you can freshen it.

For the rest, the supplier's text describes the whole collection as a mix of different materials and prints, without saying which ones are used on this model. In the photos the printed panels have a short, hairy texture and the trim panels are smooth. We cannot name the upper material from a photo, so the spec says "not specified". Ask us before ordering if you need the label information.

Size and fit: go by the insole length

The supplier gives the insole length per size. Size 37 is 24 cm, size 38 is 24.5 cm and size 39 is 25.5 cm, so the step from 38 to 39 is a full centimetre. Measure your foot standing, heel to longest toe, and pick the size with an insole a little longer than that.

Laces let you set the width over the instep. No width is given.

Styling: plain clothes, one print

The photos show all three pairs with white cropped trousers and bare ankles, and that is the formula: a plain, light outfit and a hem short enough to show the whole shoe.

The brown pairs sit well with camel, cream, khaki and blue jeans. The zebra pair is black and cream, so it goes with almost anything monochrome. One print per outfit is enough.

Occasions

These are everyday sneakers: for the commute, a day of errands, a city trip. With tailored trousers they pass at a casual office. The supplier files them under trainers, but they are fashion shoes, not running shoes.

Care: brush, don't soak

The supplier's data has no care instructions. Since we do not know the upper material, the careful route is a soft dry brush for the printed panels and a damp cloth for the sole. Take the insole out now and then and let it air.

The wow detail: a print with texture

In the close-up photos the printed panels are not flat. They have a short pile, so the leopard spots and zebra stripes look like a coat and catch the light differently from the smooth trim beside them. That contrast between hairy and smooth is what makes a simple sneaker shape interesting.
