Step in Style is a footwear brand sold through a Polish wholesaler. Each colourway has its own model number, and the five descriptions tell the same story: platform sneakers for daily wear.

They differ on one word. The upper is called suede in one description. The other four add a prefix that marks it as an imitation: faux suede for three colours and faux leather for the pink pair. None of them gives a composition. We describe it as a faux material with a suede or leather look until the supplier tells us more.

In the photos you also see a mesh-look panel at the tongue and around the ankle, and a small pull loop at the heel.

Who they're for

For you if you want a little extra height without a heel. The sole is the same thickness from toe to heel, so your foot stays flat.

They also suit you if your wardrobe is mostly jeans and wide trousers and you want one pair of sneakers with some colour in it. The pastel mix is the bold one. The beige and the blue-grey are easier to combine.

What we don't know: the height of the platform, what the sole is made of and the exact materials of the upper. The supplier's data leaves those out.

Materials and build: a suede look, details unknown

The surface in the photos is matte and slightly napped, like suede. The maker's wording points to a faux version, and for the pink pair to faux leather. We would rather be plain about that than sell you real suede that isn't.

The insole is described as soft and covered with material. The sole looks like one moulded piece with a fine ridge around the edge. That is all the photos give away, and the data adds nothing about weight or grip.

Size and fit: measure your insole

The maker's table lists the insole length per size: 23 cm for 36, 23.5 cm for 37, 24.5 cm for 38, 25 cm for 39, 25.5 cm for 40 and 26 cm for 41. Note the jump of a full centimetre between 37 and 38.

Take the insole out of a pair of sneakers that fits you, or measure your foot standing on a sheet of paper, and compare. Most people want a few millimetres more insole than foot. The table says nothing about width.

Styling: let the trouser leg stop above the shoe

The photos show them with wide striped trousers and with cropped jeans and an anklet. In both cases the hem ends above the shoe, so the stripe and the platform stay in view.

A thick sole balances wide trousers well. With a summer dress they make the look sportier. Match one colour from the shoe in your outfit, the pink of the stripe or the mint of the lining, and stop there.

When to wear them

The maker made them for everyday outfits: errands, a day at the office with a relaxed dress code, a city walk.

They are fashion sneakers. Nothing in the data says they are built for running or the gym, so keep them for the street.

Care

The supplier gives no care instructions. For a napped faux upper, a soft dry brush is the safe first step, and a damp cloth works for the white sole. Keep them out of the washing machine unless a label in the shoe says otherwise.

The wow detail: the wave

The stripe on the side starts at the laces, dips and rises again towards the heel. On the beige and blue-grey pairs it is white. On the light grey pair it is pink. On the pastel pair it is orange against lilac, with a mint lining. It is a small drawing on each shoe, and it is what people will look at.
