Metallic snow boots with laces and a big fur trim

These snow boots are not shy. The shaft is padded and metallic, black laces criss-cross down the front, and a wide trim of long brown-and-beige pile sits around the top. They stand on a 4 cm platform sole with a ridged tread.

The upper is faux leather and the shaft is 17 cm high. There are two versions: a bright silver with a glossy black toe section, and a darker metallic grey.

The piece: models 222362 and 222363

Two names again. The wholesaler lists these boots under Solea. The descriptions call the style "Malida" and say it is from the brand Gemre. We pass on both, because the data does not tell us which name is on the box.

Both models are filed as grey. Model 222362 is the silver pair, under our button "grey". Model 222363 is the dark metallic pair, under "grey 2". A black band with white lettering runs across the shaft of both.

About the fur. The maker's table says "fur" for the trim and the footbed, and the description speaks of a soft fur lining. Nowhere does it say whether that is animal fur or an imitation. Our old title said faux fur. We cannot confirm that, so we now say what the maker says and tell you plainly that the origin is not stated.

Who they're for

For you if winter boots are allowed to be fun. They are the après-ski look for city pavements, and they make a plain coat look like a choice.

Materials and build

The upper is artificial leather according to the maker, which we call faux leather. On the silver pair the toe and the edge above the sole are glossy black; the dark pair is one metallic tone from top to bottom. The shaft looks padded, with stitched channels.

The descriptions also promise warmth on the coldest days, resistance to moisture and long wear. We have no test data for any of that, so we do not repeat those promises. What we can say is what you see: a lined winter boot on a thick sole.

Size and measurements

Look at the insole table before you pick your usual size. It starts at 22.5 cm in size 36 and goes up half a centimetre per size to 25 cm in size 41. That is short. A foot of 24.5 cm, which is a 38 in many brands, needs a 40 here.

A fur footbed takes up room as well, and you may want thick socks. Measure your foot, add what you need for socks, and choose by centimetres.

Styling: tuck the trousers in

The photos show cream trousers tucked into the boots, and tucking in is the way to wear them. The maker suggests jeans, leggings or even dresses.

I would go for black leggings, a long puffer coat and a beanie with the silver pair. The dark metallic pair is calmer and works with grey jeans and a camel coat. Keep the rest of the outfit matte, because the boots bring the shine.

Occasions

The maker has snowy city streets and winter days in mind. Think of a Christmas market, a winter-sports holiday off the slopes, the walk to school on a frosty morning. The description also mentions mountain hikes. We would keep them to pavements and paths.

Care

The maker's data has no care instructions. Faux leather in general wipes clean with a damp cloth. Shake out the fur trim and let it dry in the air if it gets wet; do not put the boots on a radiator. Wipe off road salt the same day.

The wow detail: metal and fur together

A cold, shiny shaft with a warm, shaggy edge on top. The contrast is the whole idea of this boot. The brown tones in the trim soften the silver, and the black laces tie the two together.
