A flared midi skirt with a proper waistband

This flared midi skirt by BeWear sits high on the waist on a wide band with two decorative buttons, then opens into a full skirt that ends at mid-calf. It is 84 cm long in every size and closes with a covered zip.

The fabric is 100% polyester. Sizes run from S to XXL. The colour available now is green, a muted khaki shade in the photos.

The piece: BeWear model 177939

The maker's description is one line: a flared midi skirt with a high waist and decorative buttons, fastened with a covered zipper.

BeWear made it in four colours. The pink version in the gallery is no longer supplied, so green is the one you can order. An older title here mentioned belt loops; the supplier does not, and we do not see any in the photos, so we have removed that.

Who it's for

For you if you like a skirt that moves and a waist that is clearly marked. The high band holds the top of the skirt flat, and everything below it swings.

With sizes up to XXL and a waist of 90 cm in the largest, the range is wider than usual. Since the length is 84 cm for everyone, the skirt will sit lower on the leg if you are short and nearer the knee if you are tall.

Closer look: what the maker states and what the photos show

  • Flared cut, midi length, high waist (maker's data)
  • Decorative buttons (maker's data); two small gold-tone buttons on the waistband (photos)
  • Covered zip (maker's data)
  • Wide, flat waistband (photos)
  • Deep folds from the band down; hem at mid-calf on the model (photos; 84 cm in the size table)
  • Side pockets, as far as the photos show: the model has her hands in them (photos)

The supplier's text does not mention pockets or a lining.

Fabric and feel: 100% polyester

The skirt is 100% polyester, with no stretch fibre. In the photos the fabric is matte, with enough weight to fall in deep, rounded folds and a fine texture on the surface.

Polyester of this kind keeps its shape and creases little, which suits a full skirt. The supplier lists the weight at 450 grams.

Fit and silhouette: the waist decides

Only one measurement matters for the fit: the waist. It is 70 cm in S, 75 cm in M, 80 cm in L, 85 cm in XL and 90 cm in XXL. The fabric does not stretch, so choose the size at or just above your own waist measurement.

The hips are free, because the skirt is far wider than the body from the band down. Length is 84 cm across all sizes.

M 84 75
L 84 80
XL 84 85
XXL 84 90

Source: the maker's size table. The waist is the full width of the waistband. The fabric has no stretch fibre, so measure your waist where the band will sit.

Styling: fitted on top

The photos pair every colour with a plain black tank top tucked in, and heeled sandals. That is the formula: something close-fitting on top, so the waistband and its buttons stay in view.

Khaki green goes well with white, cream, black and tan. Try a white shirt knotted at the waist in summer and a thin black roll-neck with boots in autumn. Skip long tops that cover the band; they hide what makes the skirt good.

Occasions

This skirt goes to the office, to a lunch, to a birthday and to a casual wedding with the right top. It is long enough for a bike and wide enough to walk fast in.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no washing instructions, so follow the label sewn into the skirt.

A general tip for a full skirt: hang it by the waistband to dry, and the folds will drop out by themselves. Close the zip before washing.

The wow detail: two buttons on the band

Two small gold-tone buttons sit side by side on the front of the waistband. They do nothing, as the maker admits by calling them decorative. But they give the eye a place to land, the way buttons on a sailor trouser do, and they are the only shine on a matte skirt.
