An asymmetric mini skirt with a wrap front
This asymmetric mini skirt by Awama looks like a wrap skirt and closes with a covered zip. The front panel crosses over and ends in a slanted edge, so the hem is lower on one side than on the other.
There are two versions: a small black-and-white houndstooth check and a plain black. The skirt is 46.5 to 48 cm long, comes in sizes S to XL and was made in Poland.

The piece: models 173904 and 173905 by Awama
Awama is a Polish label. The supplier's text for both model numbers is one line: an asymmetrical mini length skirt with a covered zipper, in colours that combine easily, made in Poland.
Both models are listed with the colour black, and the supplier does not say which one has the check. The photos show a houndstooth version and a plain one, and the two models have different fabric compositions. In our gallery the button black belongs to the houndstooth skirt and black 2 to the plain black one. The photo changes when you pick a button, so you can see which you are ordering.
Who it's for
For you if a plain pencil skirt bores you and a full skirt is too much. The slanted wrap gives a short, straight skirt one interesting line and leaves the rest alone.
It is short. At 47 cm in size M it ends at mid-thigh on the model. With a shirt tucked in and tights it is office wear in many workplaces, and in some it will be too short. You know your own office.

The supplier does not mention a lining or pockets, and we see no pockets in the photos.
Fabric and feel: two fabrics, one cut
The two versions are not made of the same cloth. For model 173904 the maker lists 69% polyester, 32% viscose and 3% spandex. Those shares add up to 104%, so there is a slip in the supplier's data; we print the list as we received it. For model 173905 the maker lists 95% polyester and 5% spandex.
In the photos the houndstooth has a fine woven check with a dry, matte look, and the black is smooth. Both hold the straight shape of the skirt without visible pulling, and both contain a little spandex for movement.
Fit and silhouette: high waist, straight, short
The table below is the maker's and is the same for both versions. Size S has a waist width of 68 cm and a hips width of 92 cm. Each size adds 4 cm to both, up to 80 cm and 104 cm in XL. Length grows by half a centimetre per size, from 46.5 cm to 48 cm.
The skirt sits high on the waist. Because the front is a fixed overlap closed with a zip, it will not open like a true wrap skirt when you walk. Choose by your waist first: a high-waisted skirt that is loose there will turn and move the slanted edge off centre.

Styling: a shirt, tucked in
The photos show the simplest pairing. The houndstooth skirt is worn with a black shirt, the black skirt with a white one, both tucked in, with black pumps. It is hard to improve on that for work.
For the weekend, swap the shirt for a fine roll-neck jumper and the pumps for ankle boots or loafers with black tights. The houndstooth also looks good with a red jumper in December. Keep the top half fitted or tucked, so the waistband and the slanted hem stay visible.
Occasions
The supplier only says the colours work in many combinations. We would place the skirt at the office, at a lunch or dinner in town and at drinks after work. With tights it is an autumn and winter piece. The plain black one will also see use at parties with a sequin top.
Care: follow the label
The maker's data we receive has no care instructions, so please go by the label sewn into the skirt. The two versions are different fabrics, so do not assume they wash the same way.
Close the zip before washing and press the slanted edge flat while the skirt is still slightly damp, if the label allows ironing.
The wow detail: a hem that is not level
Most mini skirts end in a straight line. This one ends in a step. The top layer stops short on a diagonal and the layer beneath shows below it. On the houndstooth version the check runs straight on one panel and meets the diagonal edge of the other, which is the kind of detail you only notice the second time you look.
