Description
An A-line midi skirt with deep pleats and a slit at the front
This is a skirt, and we say so first because the page used to call it a dress. Figl's A-line midi skirt sits at the waist, falls in deep pleats and opens at the left leg in a curved slit.
It is 100% polyester, unlined, with a zip at the side. The maker's table gives a length of 62 cm in S and 63.5 cm in XL. The tops you see in the photos are not included.

The piece: one Figl skirt, six versions
Figl describes a midi skirt with contrasting pleats, type A, without pockets, unlined and zipped at the side, with an asymmetrical slit at the left leg. Each colour has its own model number and they all share one size table.
There are four plain colours: a burgundy red, grey, brown and navy blue. The grey is a pale blue-grey in the photos, and our colour button calls it light blue. Then there are two floral prints, one on a beige ground and one on white.
In the gallery the skirt is shown with wrap tops and a printed blouse. Those belong to other products. The earlier title promised a dress with a printed bodice, which was not correct.
Who it's for
For you if you want an office skirt that is not a pencil skirt. The A-line leaves the hips free, and the pleats give you room to walk and to sit.
The waist is the only place where it has to fit. It runs from 72 cm in S to 84 cm in XL, and there is no elastic, so measure your waist where you want the band to sit.
Closer look: what the maker's data and the photos show
- A-line shape with deep pleats front and back (maker's data and photos)
- Asymmetrical slit at the left leg with a curved edge (maker's data and photos)
- Zip at the side (maker's data)
- No pockets (maker's data)
- Unlined (maker's data)
- Flat waistband with a small metal tag at the front (photos)
- Hem around the knee on the model, 62 to 63.5 cm long (size table and photos)
Fabric and feel: polyester that holds a pleat
The skirt is 100% polyester. In the photos the fabric is smooth and matte and has enough body to keep the pleats sharp at the waist and let them open towards the hem.
There is no lining. With the pale grey and the white floral, a slip or skin-tone underwear is a sensible choice. The maker gives no fabric weight.
Fit and silhouette: fitted waist, free hips
Choose by waist. Size M has a waist width of 76 cm and a length of 62.5 cm. The hips width in the table, 170 to 182 cm, looks huge because it includes the fabric folded into the pleats.
On the model the hem is at the knee. Each size adds only half a centimetre in length, so the skirt will sit at about the same height on everyone and look shorter on long legs.
Size chart (cm)
| Size | Length | Hips width | Waist width |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | 62 | 170 | 72 |
| M | 62.5 | 174 | 76 |
| L | 63 | 178 | 80 |
| XL | 63.5 | 182 | 84 |
Source: the maker's size table, the same for all colours. The hips width is large because the pleats are counted in; the skirt is not fitted at the hips.
Styling: tuck something in
The photos show the idea well. A sleeveless wrap top tucked into the waistband, heeled sandals or pumps, bare legs. With the plain skirts the top carries a print; with the floral skirts the top is plain.
A fine-knit jumper works in autumn, half tucked at the front so the pleats start clean. Flat ankle boots make the navy and the burgundy more casual.
Occasions
We see the plain colours at work and at a lunch. The floral prints suit a summer party or a day out.
The supplier names no occasion. There are no pockets, so your phone needs a bag.
Care: follow the label
The maker's data has no washing instructions, so follow the label sewn into the skirt.
Pleated skirts in general keep their folds better when you hang them by the waistband straight after washing.
The wow detail: the tulip opening
The slit is not a straight cut. Two pleated panels overlap at the front and curve away from each other towards the hem, like the petals of a tulip. Standing still, the skirt looks closed. When you walk, the left side opens and shows the knee, then closes again.
