Loose cotton shorts with a high waist and pockets you can use
These cotton shorts by BeWear are cut wide, sit high on an elastic waistband and have two big patch pockets on the front. The fabric is 90% cotton and 10% polyester, with no lining.
They are between 42 and 45 cm long depending on the size, which is mid-thigh on the model. BeWear says they were designed and made in Poland.

The piece: one cut, six model numbers
BeWear describes these shorts as loose and comfortable, with legs in a trapezoid shape. That means they widen towards the hem, so they stand away from the thigh. Each colour has its own model number, from 211513 to 211518, and the description and size table are the same for all of them.
The supplier's colour names are short: violet, beige, green, grey, yellow and beige again. The photos say more. Violet is a dusty mauve, the first beige a warm taupe, green a soft sage, yellow a pale lemon and the second beige an off-white.
One colour needs a warning. The supplier lists model 211516 as grey, but the photos we received for it show a coral pink pair. We do not know yet which of the two is right. If you want that colour, ask us first.
Who it's for
For you if tight jeans shorts are not your idea of summer. These leave room around the thigh and stay up on elastic, so nothing digs in when you sit on a terrace for two hours.
They come in S to XL. The hips in the table are generous, 106 cm in S and 121 cm in XL, which tells you how wide the cut is.

Fabric and feel: 90% cotton, no lining
The composition is 90% cotton and 10% polyester. BeWear points out that there is no lining and links that to breathability on warm days. We would put it more simply: one layer of mostly cotton is what you want when it is hot.
In the photos the fabric looks like a smooth, fairly dense knit that holds the wide shape of the legs. The maker does not give a weight.
Fit and silhouette: wide leg, elastic waist
The table gives a waist of 60 cm in S, 65 cm in M, 70 cm in L and 75 cm in XL. Those numbers are small because elastic is measured relaxed; it stretches when you put the shorts on. The hips are 106, 111, 116 and 121 cm.
Length goes up one centimetre per size, from 42 to 45 cm. If you are between sizes, the smaller one will sit closer at the waist and the legs will still be wide.

Styling: short on top, or tucked
The photos show the shorts with a boxy top in the same colour and heeled mules. A full set in one colour looks more dressed than you would expect from a pair of pull-on shorts.
On their own they go with a white tank top and flat sandals, or with a striped shirt half tucked in at the front. Because the waist is high, a cropped top works too. For the beach, wear them over a swimsuit.
Occasions
BeWear suggests them for warm days, and that covers it: holidays, a day at the lake, the garden, the market on Saturday morning. They are also good travel shorts, because elastic and soft cotton are kind on a long drive.
We would keep them out of the office unless yours is very relaxed.

The maker's data has no care instructions. Follow the label sewn into the shorts.
As a general rule, cotton in pale colours like the yellow and the off-white stays fresh longer when you wash it with other light colours only.
The wow detail: those pockets
The pockets are stitched onto the outside of the legs like on a pair of work trousers, big and square. A phone goes in without a fight. They also give the front of the shorts some structure, which is why they look like a designed piece and less like sleepwear.
