A tracksuit set with hoodie, and with openings where you would not expect them

At first glance this is a plain tracksuit set with hoodie and cuffed trousers. Then you see the sleeves and the legs. On each one the fabric is cut open in two leaf shapes and tied back together with a small bow.

NM makes the set from a soft blend of 50% viscose, 45% polyester and 5% spandex. It comes in one size, in black or beige.

The black set is model 210121 and the beige one is 210122. The maker's description and size table are the same for both.

The hoodie has long sleeves, a hood with drawcords and a ribbed hem that sits at the hip. The trousers have a high waist, an elastic waistband with ties, slip pockets at the sides and cuffs at the ankles. The maker lists all of that; the photos confirm it.

Who it's for

For you if you live in joggers at the weekend and want a set that looks less like sportswear. The cut-outs do that work.

It is one size. The waist stretches from 68 to 124 cm according to the maker, the chest is 108 cm and the hips are 100 cm. That covers a wide range, but the trousers are 99 cm long on everyone, so on a short frame they will bunch above the cuff and on a tall frame they will sit higher on the ankle.

The openings are real: skin shows through on the arms and the thighs. Keep that in mind if you want this set for cold days.

Fabric and feel: half viscose

The composition is 50% viscose, 45% polyester and 5% spandex. The maker calls the material soft and pleasant to the touch. Viscose usually gives a knit a smoother, cooler hand than a classic sweat fabric, and in the photos the set hangs with some weight and a slight sheen.

The maker gives no fabric weight and does not say whether the inside is brushed. We won't guess at how warm it is.

Fit and silhouette: one size, with numbers

One size can mean anything, so here are the maker's numbers. The hoodie is 60 cm long with a chest of 108 cm. The trousers are 99 cm long with hips of 100 cm, and the waistband stretches from 68 to 124 cm.

On the model the hoodie is roomy and ends at the hip, and the trousers taper to the cuff. If your hips measure more than 100 cm, the trousers will fit closer than in the photos; the fabric has stretch, but the openings on the thigh will pull wider.

Styling: sneakers or a heel

The photos show both directions. The black set is worn with white platform sneakers, the beige one with block-heel mules. Sneakers keep it a tracksuit. A heel turns it into an outfit for a casual dinner.

Wear the pieces apart too. The hoodie works over a slip skirt, and the trousers go with a plain white T-shirt. A long coat over the full set looks good, as long as the sleeves are wide enough for the bows.

Occasions

The maker calls it an everyday set, and we agree. It suits a day of travel, a weekend at home, a coffee in town. Because of the openings we would not pick it for the gym.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so go by the labels sewn into the hoodie and the trousers. One practical tip: wash the set in a laundry bag, or at least check that the bows are tied, so the ties don't catch and pull the openings out of shape.

The wow detail: four small bows

Look closely at the photos: there is one bow on each sleeve and one on each thigh, and each holds two leaf-shaped openings together. From a distance they read as a pattern. Up close they are a bit of bare skin on an otherwise covered-up set.
