A sweater and dress set you put on in one go

This sweater and dress set by Lakerta is two pieces sold together: a sleeveless dress with a round neck and side slits, and a long-sleeve sweater with its own belt. Wear both and the outfit is finished. Wear the dress alone when it is warm inside.

It comes in one size, S/M, and in one colour. The supplier calls that colour beige; in the photos it looks closer to off-white.

Lakerta lists this as a set of a sweater plus a dress, in a plain fabric without a pattern, and files it under day dresses. The dress is sleeveless with a round neck and has slits at the sides of the hem. The sweater has long sleeves and a belt attached to it.

Our old page called this a loungewear set. That was wrong, and we have corrected it: this is a dress with a matching sweater, made to be worn outside the house.

Who it's for

For you if you like one-colour outfits and do not want to hunt for a top that matches a dress. The supplier describes the style as casual and names work, outings and meeting friends as the places for it.

Because there is only one size, the measurements decide whether it is for you. The dress has a chest of 82 cm, which is close-fitting; the sweater is roomy at 114 cm. If you usually wear S or M, check those two numbers against clothes you own.

Fabric and feel: what the supplier states, and what we cannot confirm

According to the supplier the composition is angora 85% and spandex 15%. Whether this is angora hair or a fabric name is not confirmed, so check the sewn-in label when the set arrives. We would rather tell you that than guess.

In the photos the knit is fine and smooth, without ribs or a visible pattern. The supplier gives a weight of 450 g for the set.

Fit and silhouette: a narrow dress under a wide sweater

The supplier gives two figures for each measurement. We read them as sweater first, dress second: the sweater is 58 cm long with a chest of 114 cm, the dress is 112 cm long with a chest of 82 cm. That matches the photos, where the sweater stops at the hip and the dress runs to below the knee.

The dress is the piece to check. 82 cm is a snug chest measurement, and the fabric contains spandex, so expect it to follow the body. The sweater has room to spare and the belt lets you pull it in.

Styling: one colour, your choice of shoes

The photos show the set with green high-heeled sandals, and that is the idea in one picture: a single light colour from shoulder to knee, with the shoes doing the talking. Ankle boots and a long coat take it into autumn.

You can also split the set. The dress works under a blazer, and the sweater sits well over high-waisted trousers with the belt tied at the side.

Occasions

The supplier suggests work, casual outings and meetings with friends. We agree, and would add a birthday lunch or a dinner where you want to look dressed without wearing a formal dress. Keep in mind that the colour is light, so it is not the outfit for a day with small children and tomato sauce.

The supplier gives no washing instructions for this set. Follow the sewn-in label, and read it before the first wash, because it also settles the question of what the fabric is.

The wow detail: the belt that joins two pieces

The belt is attached to the sweater, so it cannot go missing in a drawer. Tied at the waist, it gives the wide sweater a shape and makes the two pieces read as one outfit. The supplier calls it the detail that turns the set into a whole, and in the photos you can see why.
