This two-piece set by Ex Moda pairs a hooded sweatshirt with a skirt in the same fabric and the same colour. The sweatshirt has long sleeves and a pocket on the front. The skirt has an elastic waistband.

Both pieces are 70% cotton and 30% polyester. The set comes in one size and in seven colours, from black and off-white to orange and green.

Ex Moda is a label we buy through a fashion wholesaler in Poland. Each colour has its own model number, 160786 and 177043 to 177048, and the supplier describes all seven in the same words: an everyday set consisting of a sweatshirt and a skirt.

The photos show more than the text does. The hoodie is cropped. It ends above the waist in an elastic hem, so a strip of skin can show between top and skirt when you move. There is a short zip at the neck with a ring pull, and the front pocket is a wide pouch with a flap. The sleeves are full and gathered into elastic cuffs.

The skirt is straight and ends above the knee on the models.

Who it's for

For you if you like the comfort of a tracksuit and would rather wear a skirt. A matching set also saves a decision in the morning: the outfit is done before you have thought about it.

Be aware that it is sold in one size only. The elastic in the hem, cuffs and waistband gives some range, but the maker's data does not tell us which sizes it is meant to cover. See the fit section before you order.

Fabric and feel: a cotton blend sweat fabric

The composition is 70% cotton and 30% polyester, the usual mix for sweatshirts. In the photos the fabric looks thick: the hood stands up on its own and the skirt holds a straight line without clinging.

The supplier does not give a fabric weight and does not say whether the inside is brushed. So we can tell you it is a sweatshirt fabric, and we can't tell you how warm it is.

Fit and size: one size, with an incomplete table

The set is one size. The maker's size table has columns for length, chest and waist and only two numbers, 116 cm and 72 cm, and it is not clear which number belongs to which column. We would rather show you that than present a guess as a measurement.

From the photos: the hoodie is wide in the body and the sleeves, so it is forgiving. The skirt is the piece that decides whether the set fits, and its waistband is elastic. On the models, who appear to wear a small size, the skirt sits smooth and straight. If you doubt whether one size will fit you, ask us to check the skirt's measurements with the supplier before you order.

Styling: boots or heels, both are in the photos

The photos style the set two ways. With chunky ankle boots or knee-high boots it is a comfortable winter outfit. With pointed heels or mules it becomes something you could wear to drinks, which is a surprise for a sweatshirt.

The pieces also work apart. Wear the hoodie over high-waisted jeans, and the skirt with a tucked-in T-shirt and trainers. In colder weather, tights in the same tone as your boots keep the line long.

Occasions

The supplier calls it an everyday set, and that is the right word. Think of a day of lectures, a train journey, a Saturday in town or a relaxed birthday at a friend's house.

In black or off-white it can pass in a casual office. The orange and the bright pink are for days when you feel like being seen.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data we receive has no care instructions, so please go by the labels sewn into the two pieces.

One habit that helps with any matching set: wash both pieces together every time, even if you only wore one. That way the colours stay the same shade.

The wow detail: a pocket with a flap

Most hoodies have an open pouch. This one has a wide pocket with a flap across the chest, borrowed from an anorak. With the short zip and the ring pull above it, the top looks more like a piece of outdoor gear than a gym sweatshirt, and that contrast with the neat skirt is what makes the set interesting.
