This ruched hem zip up vest is a layer for the days when a jacket is too much and a dress on its own is too little. It is sleeveless, khaki, cut very wide, and gathered in at the hem so the body rounds out above it.

It is 100% polyester, not lined, and comes in S, M and L.

The label is Ease Mee. The supplier describes the vest as a basic style of normal thickness, not lined, in 100% polyester, and imported.

In the photos the khaki leans green. The shoulders run past the shoulder point, which makes the armholes deep, and a flap pocket sits on the front. The zip runs up the centre; the model wears it open.

For you if you dress in layers and like a silhouette with some volume. It is also practical between seasons, when mornings are cool and afternoons are not.

The cut is oversized on purpose. Even size S measures 121.9 cm around the bust, so this is not a fitted waistcoat.

Fabric and feel: unlined polyester

The vest is 100% polyester. The supplier rates the thickness as normal and states there is no lining, so think of it as a shirt-weight layer, not a padded bodywarmer. It will not add much warmth by itself.

In the photos the surface is matte and the fabric holds the rounded shape at the hem.

Fit and sizing: wide and short

Size M measures 126 cm at the bust, 57.9 cm in length and 48 cm across the shoulder. That length puts the hem around the hip on most people, and the gathered hem pulls the fabric in there.

The supplier's chart is in inches; we converted it. With this much room you can take your usual size. Go down a size only if you want less volume and the shoulder width still fits.

Styling: over dresses, tees and shirts

The photos show it open over a long white dress, with a brown bag and a stack of bangles. That contrast of utility on top and soft underneath is the easiest way to wear it.

It also works zipped over a fitted long-sleeve top with straight jeans. Keep whatever is underneath slim, because the vest brings the volume.

Occasions

City days, travel, a casual office, markets, a terrace in spring or early autumn. It is a daytime piece.

Care: machine wash cold

According to the supplier you can machine wash it cold and tumble dry it on low. Close the zip before washing so it does not catch on other clothes.

Most vests hang straight. This one is gathered at the bottom, so the back and sides round out like a small balloon. Seen from the side it gives a plain outfit a clear shape.
