These round toe platform sneakers sit on a thick white sole and carry three gold-tone studs on the side. They lace up, and the laces run through straps across the instep.

Materials and build: PU leather on rubber

PU leather is a coated synthetic material with a smooth face. It wipes clean easily and does not need polish. It breathes less than real hide or woven fabric, so thin socks are a good idea. The supplier says nothing about the lining or the insole.

The gold and rose gold pairs have a metallic sheen in the photos. Black and white are matte.

The sizes are listed as 35 to 43, and the supplier's chart gives a foot length for each, from 22.4 cm for 35 to 26.4 cm for 43, converted by us from inches. Measure your foot from heel to longest toe and compare. The supplier does not say whether they run small or large. Our practical advice: try them on indoors on a clean floor, and use the 14-day return window if they do not fit.

Styling: cropped hems and bare ankles

The photos show them with cropped, frayed jeans and an ankle chain. A short hem is the way to wear a platform, because it shows the whole shoe. They also work with a midi skirt or a summer dress. White and black go with everything. Gold and rose gold are for when the shoes may be the centre of the outfit.

Three gold-tone domes sit in a row on the outside of each shoe. They catch the light when you walk and give a plain sneaker a bit of jewellery. On the black pair they stand out the most.
