This red midi dress has a V-neck, small cap sleeves and a fitted bodice, and below the waist the skirt opens into a very full flare. In the photos it swings out in wide folds every time the model turns.

It is long for a midi, 137 cm in XS, and falls just above the ankle on the model. The supplier lists 100% polyester and warns that it runs small.

The supplier says nothing about a zip, buttons or a lining, and the photos do not show the closure. We would rather tell you that than guess.

Fabric and feel: smooth polyester

The supplier lists polyester, which we give as 100% polyester. In the photos it is smooth, with enough body for the skirt to hold its folds. Polyester creases little and dries fast, handy when a dress has to survive a suitcase. It breathes less than some fabrics, so on a hot summer night you will notice it.

Fit and silhouette: fitted waist, long skirt

The bodice is fitted, so bust and waist are the numbers to check. Bust runs from 84 cm in XS to 104 cm in XL, waist from 62 to 82 cm. The supplier measured flat and asks you to allow 2-3 cm.

Length goes from 137 to 141 cm. That is longer than most midi dresses, and on the model it reaches the lower calf. If you are petite, expect it to touch the ankle.

Styling: let the red lead

The supplier styled it with pointed cream heels, gold earrings and a thin bracelet, and that restraint works. Nude or black heels are just as easy. In autumn, add a cropped black jacket and sheer black tights.

Keep your bag small. The skirt already takes up space, and that is the fun of it.

Occasions

Wear it to a wedding as a guest, a Christmas dinner, a company party or a night at the theatre. Red is also the obvious choice for Valentine's Day.

Care: check the label first

The supplier gives no care instructions, so follow the label sewn into the dress. As general practice for polyester: wash cool, inside out, and hang it to dry so the skirt keeps its folds. Steam out creases rather than pressing hard.

The wow detail: the turn

Look at the second photo. The model turns and the skirt opens into a full circle of red. You don't need a dance floor for that; a hallway will do. It is the kind of dress you catch yourself twirling in.
