The wholesaler files model 206154 under push-up bras, and its size list holds bra sizes only, from 65C to 85D. That settles the question of what is in the parcel. The maker does advise wearing it with matching panties for the full effect, which is why the photos show both.

The design has two ideas. The first is the embroidery on the cups, in a leaf pattern with a metallic sheen. The second is the strap work: thin strips along the neckline and doubled straps over the shoulders.

Materials: what we know and what we do not

The supplier gives no composition for this bra. That is unusual, and we will not fill the gap with a guess. The sewn-in label will state the fibres, as EU rules require.

What the photos do show is a smooth fabric on the band and embroidered cups with a clear sheen.

Size and fit: two measurements

You need your underbust and your chest at the fullest point. The band number follows the underbust: 63-67 cm is a 65, 68-72 cm a 70, 73-77 cm a 75, 78-82 cm an 80 and 83-87 cm an 85. The cup follows the chest. A 75B, for instance, is listed for a chest of 89-90 cm.

The hooks have three positions. Start on the loosest one; a band relaxes with wear, and then you still have two positions left. With the inserts out, the cups give a little more room.

Styling: let a strap show

The doubled straps are too good to hide. Under a wide-necked black jumper that slips off one shoulder, or a white shirt left open one button lower than usual, a flash of fuchsia looks deliberate.

Under a thin white T-shirt this colour will show through, and the embroidery will show its texture. For that you need a smooth nude bra, and this is not it.

Occasions

Wear it on a date night, on your anniversary, or on an ordinary Tuesday when you feel like it. Nice lingerie under plain clothes is a small private pleasure.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so follow the label sewn into the bra.

Embroidered bras generally keep their shape longer when you close the hooks, take the inserts out and wash them by hand or in a laundry bag.

The wow detail: two straps where you expect one

Each shoulder strap splits into two thin lines before it reaches the cup, and a third runs along the neckline. On the back you see the same double line. It frames the collarbone, and it is the detail the maker says adds some spice.
