Plaid wide-leg trousers with a soft waistband
These plaid wide-leg trousers borrow their waist from a pair of boxer shorts: a plain elastic band in a contrast colour, with a drawstring. Below it, the checked legs fall wide and long.
The fabric is 95% polyester with 5% elastane. There are three checks to choose from, black, red and navy, in sizes S to XL.

The trousers are sold under the label Axelle. The supplier lists a drawstring and, in the title, an elastic waistband and a wide leg.
The photos show what the colour names mean. Black is a black check with white lines and a black waistband. Red is a red and navy check with a white waistband and a white cord. Navy is a dark blue check with white lines and a black waistband. In several photos the model has her hands in side pockets, though the supplier does not list pockets.
Who it's for
For you if you like the pyjama-trouser look outside the house. The cut is loose from the hip down, and the waistband stretches a long way, so these are easy trousers for long days.
They are long: 103.9 cm in S. On the model the hems cover most of the shoe.

Fabric and feel: polyester with a little elastane
The composition is 95% polyester and 5% elastane. The supplier gives no weight and no stretch rating. In the photos the fabric hangs loosely and folds softly at the hem, which suggests a light to medium cloth. We would not call it a winter trouser.
Fit and silhouette: low, loose and long
The waist is given as a range, relaxed to stretched: 66 to 96 cm in S, 69.1 to 100.1 cm in M, 73.9 to 105.9 cm in L and 79 to 112 cm in XL. The hip runs from 105.9 cm to 121.9 cm and the length from 103.9 cm to 106.9 cm. The supplier gives inches; we converted them.
With this much stretch in the waist, choose your size by the hip and the length. In the photos the trousers sit low on the hips. Worn at the waist, they will come up a few centimetres shorter at the hem.

Styling: a plain top and solid shoes
The photos keep it simple: a white or black crop top, tan boots and a shoulder bag. A check this size wants a plain partner, so a fitted tee, a tank or a cropped knit are the obvious choices.
In autumn, an oversized hoodie over the top turns them into a weekend outfit. We like the red check with white sneakers and the black one with a black blazer, which looks sharper than it sounds.
Occasions
Wear them to class, on a travel day, to the shops or at home when friends come over. They are relaxed trousers and they look it, so we would leave them out of a formal office.
Care: cold wash, low dryer
The supplier's care instructions: machine wash cold, tumble dry low. Tie the drawstring in a loose bow before washing so it does not slip into the waistband; that tip is ours.
The wow detail: the boxer waistband
The plain band at the top is what makes these trousers. It breaks the check, frames the waist and gives the whole thing a borrowed-from-underwear look that is very current. On the red pair the band and cord are white, and that is the most striking of the three.
