The supplier calls this a men's button-up long sleeve blazer. Look at the photos and you see something a little different from a classic blazer: the collar turns down like a shirt collar, there are no lapels, and the front closes with a single row of buttons up to the neck.

It is 100% polyester, of normal thickness, in brown, light grey and navy blue. The sizes are labelled 170 to 195.

Fabric and feel: smooth polyester

The outer fabric is 100% polyester and the supplier gives the thickness as normal. In the photos it is smooth and matt with a clean drape. The supplier gives no weight and does not say whether the fabric stretches.

About the colours: the brown in the photos is a grey-brown, and the "light grey" is a mid blue-grey. The navy is dark.

Fit and sizes: go by the chest figure

The size labels run from 170 to 195. They read like body heights in centimetres, but the supplier does not explain them, so use the chart. Size 180 has a chest of 114.6 cm, a length of 73.4 cm and a sleeve of 62.2 cm.

Measure a jacket that fits you across the chest and double it, then pick the row closest to that number. The supplier labels the chest column "bust".

Styling: shirt, polo or fine knit

Buttoned to the top it looks like a smart overshirt. Left open over a white shirt or a fine roll-neck it works as a blazer. Navy with grey trousers is the safe office choice.

The brown is good with cream chinos and dark jeans. Keep the shoes plain: loafers or clean trainers.

Occasions

Wear it to the office, to a dinner, to a birthday, on a trip where you need one jacket for everything.

Care: machine wash cold

The supplier's instruction is machine wash cold, tumble dry low. For a lined jacket we would check the sewn-in label first and hang it on a shaped hanger to dry.

The wow detail: the checked lining

The outside is plain. The inside is a soft check in pale grey and lilac. Nobody sees it until you take the jacket off or leave it open, and then it looks like a choice.
