Fabric and feel: 100% cotton

The shirt is 100% cotton. The maker describes the fabric as lightweight and breathable, and in the photos it looks like a crisp shirting that holds the line of the collar and the cuffs.

Pure cotton shirting creases. Some people press it, some people decide that a slightly rumpled striped shirt looks better anyway. We lean towards the second group. There is no stretch fibre in the composition, and with this much room you won't miss it.

Fit and silhouette: two sizes, both roomy

The maker's table gives S/M a total length of 73 cm and a chest of 108 cm, and L/XL a length of 74 cm and a chest of 116 cm. The two sizes differ by 8 cm in width and only 1 cm in length.

To compare, lay a shirt you own flat, measure it across the chest and double the number. If you want the borrowed look, pick the size that gives you plenty of air. If you would rather have it closer, S/M will still be loose, going by the numbers.

Styling: open, tucked or as a set

The photos show two ways. Open over a white top with the sleeves pushed up, and buttoned and tucked into the matching shorts with beige loafers.

Without the shorts it is just as useful. Wear it over a swimsuit on the beach, with white jeans in spring, or under a plain jumper with the collar and cuffs showing. The black stripe is graphic and sharp. The beige stripe is softer and goes with everything sand-coloured.

Occasions

This is a shirt for most of your week. It goes to the office under a blazer, to lunch with jeans and on holiday over a bikini.
