This long-sleeve shirt by Figl looks plainer than it is. The front closes with snaps, and a placket covers them, so what you see is one clean line from collar to hem. Silver-tone snaps close the collar and the cuffs.

It comes in pink and in a green-and-white print, in sizes S to XL. The length runs from 66 cm in S to 67.5 cm in XL, and the fabric is 95% polyester with 5% spandex.

Figl calls it a classic women's shirt with a collar. There are two models behind this page. Model 204301 is the plain pink one. Our colour button calls it Coral, and in the photos it is a warm salmon pink. Model 204302 is listed as multicolor: a zebra-like print with dark green stripes on a white and pale blue ground.

Both share the same cut and the same size table. The photos show a pointed collar, long sleeves with cuffs and a rounded shirt hem that drops a little at the back.

Who it's for

For you if you wear shirts to work and get tired of gaping buttons. Snaps under a covered placket lie flat, and 5% spandex gives the fabric some stretch when you reach for something.

The pink one is for days when you want colour without a pattern. The print does the opposite: it is busy, so everything around it can stay plain.

Fabric and feel: polyester with 5% spandex

The composition is 95% polyester and 5% spandex. The supplier says nothing more about the fabric, so here is what the photos show: a smooth cloth with a soft sheen that hangs straight and does not cling. On the pink shirt the light catches the folds of the sleeves.

The spandex is the part you will feel. It lets the shirt move with your shoulders.

Fit and silhouette: straight, hip length

The cut is straight. Size S has a chest of 92 cm and hips of 98 cm; XL has 104 and 108 cm. The length barely changes between sizes, from 66 cm to 67.5 cm, so going up a size gives you width and almost no extra length.

The table does not say whether these are garment or body measurements. Measure a shirt you own across the chest, double it and compare. Check which sizes are in stock per colour before you fall for one: today the supplier lists the pink shirt in S and XL only.

Styling: loose over trousers or tucked into a skirt

The photos give you both options. The pink shirt hangs loose over slim white trousers with clear-strap heels. The print is tucked into a dark green pencil skirt with black pumps, and the skirt picks up the green of the stripes.

For the office we would add a navy blazer to the pink one and leave the collar snap open. At the weekend, roll the sleeves once and wear it over straight jeans. With the print, repeat one of its colours below the waist and stop there.

Occasions

This is a shirt for working days first. It fits a meeting, a job interview and a lunch with a client. The supplier files it under shirts for women and gives no occasion, so that is our reading of it.

It also travels well to a birthday or a dinner when a T-shirt feels too casual and a dress feels like too much.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so go by the label sewn into the shirt. One tip that applies to any shirt with snaps: close them before washing, so they do not catch on other clothes.

The wow detail: a front without buttons in sight

Look at the front of the pink shirt in the photos. There is a single vertical line where the two sides meet, and nothing else. The snaps sit under the placket. Then, at the collar and the cuffs, the silver-tone snaps are on show. It is a small reversal, and it makes a plain shirt look considered.
