A wrap-front blouse with a collar that catches the light

This wrap-front blouse by Italy Moda looks like a plain shirt until you get to the collar. The maker set it with small zircons, and the same stones return on the little tabs at the shoulders. The front crosses over into a V, the sleeves are long and the cuffs close with a button.

It comes in black, green and red, in one size. The fabric is 70% polyester and 30% viscose, which the maker describes as smooth.

Italy Moda gives every colour its own model number. Black is 203102, green is 203103 and red is 203400. The maker's text is the same for all three, so you choose on colour and nothing else changes.

The maker calls it a women's shirt with a classic cut and a standard length. In the photos that means a hem that reaches the hips, rounded like a shirt tail. The front is where it leaves the classic shirt behind: two panels that cross, so you get a V-neckline without a row of buttons running down the middle.

Who it's for

For you if you want a shirt for work that still has something going on. The stones are small. From across a room you see a neat collar, and only up close do you see it sparkle.

It also suits you if you dislike a buttoned-up neck. The crossed front sits open and relaxed. Because there is only one size, check the measurement further down against a blouse you already own before you order.

The maker says the blouse fastens with buttons but does not say where they sit. In the photos we can see the cuff buttons clearly and not much more, because the wrap covers the front.

Fabric and feel: polyester with viscose

The composition is 70% polyester and 30% viscose. The maker describes the material as smooth and comfortable to wear. In the photos it hangs softly and has a matte surface, without shine.

Viscose is the part of the blend that gives a fabric its drape, and you can see that in the way the crossed front falls in folds. The maker does not give a fabric weight and does not mention stretch, so we won't either.

Fit and size: one size, one number

This blouse comes in one size. The maker's table holds a single value: 116 cm. The table does not label it clearly. On the models the blouse ends at the hips, so 116 cm cannot be the length. We read it as the chest measured all the way round.

To check, lay a blouse you like flat, measure across the chest from side seam to side seam and double the number. If you land well under 116 cm, this one will sit loose on you, the way it does on the models. If you land above it, we would not order.

The sleeves reach the wrist on both models. Worn loose, the back covers the hips.

Styling: tucked in or left loose

The photos show two ways to wear it. Tucked in at the front, the wrap blouses out a little over the waistband and the outfit looks dressed. Left loose, it reads as an easy shirt with a long back.

In the photos the black and the green are worn with black sequin shorts and trousers, the red with slim black trousers that have decorative buttons. Those pieces are not included, but they show the idea: let the bottom half be dark and let the collar do the talking.

For the office we would pick the black with grey tailored trousers and loafers. The red is good with dark jeans and ankle boots on a Friday. Skip the necklace. The collar already sparkles, and a pair of small earrings is enough.

Occasions

The maker suggests it for elegant occasions and for everyday office wear. We think that is fair. It is a shirt you can wear to a meeting in the morning and keep on for dinner.

In December the green and the red come into their own at a Christmas lunch or drinks with colleagues. The black is the quiet one, and it will see the most wear through the year.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data we receive has no care instructions, so please go by the label sewn into the blouse. We would rather say that than guess.

One habit helps with any top that has stones on it: turn it inside out and put it in a laundry bag, so the stones don't catch on other clothes.

Look at the photos taken from the back. The stones run along the collar and sit on the two small shoulder tabs, so the blouse has something to show from behind as well. On the black they look like tiny points of light. On the green they stand out more.
