A long glitter dress that looks like a top and a skirt

This long glitter dress by Numoco is one piece, but it reads as two. The top is a powder beige with a wrap neckline. From the high waist down it becomes a fitted black skirt full of fine glitter, with a long slit at the front.

It measures 142 to 146 cm depending on the size, which brings it to the ankle on the model. The fabric is 95% polyester and 5% spandex, and the sizes run from XS to XL.

The two halves meet at a high waist. On one side the fabric is gathered into a pleat that falls down over the skirt, and the slit opens underneath it. A small metal tag sits at the waist seam. In the photos the top has short cap sleeves that cover the shoulder.

Who it's for

For you if you have an invitation that says "festive" and you want a long dress that isn't all black. The pale top brings light to your face, and the dark skirt does the evening part.

It suits you if you like a wrap neckline and a defined waist. The skirt is close over the hips, so read the hip numbers in the size chart with care.

Fabric and feel: stretch with a shimmer

The maker gives one composition for the whole dress: 95% polyester and 5% spandex. It calls the material flexible and comfortable and says it shimmers gently in the light.

In the photos the two parts behave differently. The beige top has a soft sheen. The black skirt is scattered with fine glitter that shows as small sparks. The spandex is what lets a skirt this narrow follow your hips and still let you sit down.

Fit and silhouette: high waist, narrow skirt

The size chart is the maker's. Size M has a chest of 86 cm, a waist of 72 cm and hips of 88 cm, at a length of 144 cm. XS and S are 142 cm long and XL is 146 cm.

Those are small numbers, and the photos confirm that the skirt sits close. The table does not say whether it measures the garment or the body. With 5% spandex in the fabric we expect the dress to stretch around you, but if your hips are wider than the number for your usual size, take the next one up.

On length: the model wears heels and the hem reaches her ankle. If you are on the shorter side, plan on heels or a visit to a tailor.

Styling: gold-tone or clear, and little else

The model wears heels with clear straps, a thin gold-tone necklace and a few bangles. That is about right. The dress has two colours, glitter, a pleat and a slit, so the accessories can stay small.

Nude or black sandals both work, and the slit will show them off. A small black clutch picks up the skirt. For the walk outside, a black blazer over the shoulders keeps the line of the dress intact. Wear your hair up if you want the neckline to do its work.

Occasions

The maker names weddings, parties, New Year's Eve and elegant dinners. We agree with all four. As a wedding guest you are safe in it, since the dress is neither white nor entirely black.

With glitter fabric it helps to wash the dress inside out and on its own the first time, because some glitter may come loose.

The wow detail: the pleat that hides the slit

Stand still and the skirt looks closed, with one soft pleat falling from the waist. Take a step and the pleat parts to show the slit and your leg. The maker mentions freedom of movement, and that is true as well: you can walk and dance in a skirt this narrow because of it.
