Jennifer Long Wrap Dress with Slit and Flutter Sleeves

A long wrap dress that opens when you walk

Numoco calls this long wrap dress Jennifer. The top crosses over into a V, the sleeves are short and wide like butterfly wings, and a belt ties at the waist. Below that the skirt falls to the floor, with a slit on the leg.

It is made in Poland from 95% polyester and 5% spandex. You can choose from five colours, three of them with a fine glitter in the fabric, in sizes S to XXL. The black also comes in XXXL.

The piece: one cut, three kinds of fabric

All five colours share the Jennifer cut and the same composition. The surface is where they differ, and the maker's texts and the photos agree on that.

The black, the navy and the taupe are what the maker calls brocade: a stretchy fabric with glitter in it. In the photos you see it as a fine sparkle over the whole dress. Our "red" is described by the maker as burgundy, and it has a smooth sheen without glitter. The "blue" is a matte light blue in a plain elastic fabric. Our "Taupe" is the maker's mocha mousse.

Who it's for

For you if you want a floor-length dress that is easy to wear. A wrap top adjusts to your bust, a tie belt adjusts to your waist, and a wide skirt leaves your hips alone.

It suits you if you want your upper arms covered without long sleeves. The size range is generous at the top end: the black goes to XXXL with a chest of 100 cm.

Fabric and feel: stretch, with or without glitter

Every colour is 95% polyester and 5% spandex. The maker describes the material as elastic and says it fits the silhouette. In the photos the skirt has real swing: the models hold it out wide on both sides.

If you choose a glitter colour, expect a slightly grainier feel on the outside than a plain fabric, as is usual with glitter. The burgundy looks the smoothest of the five. The light blue is the plainest and reads as the most daytime of them.

Fit and silhouette: fitted top, floor-length skirt

The table below is the maker's table for black, navy and taupe. Size M is 147 cm long with a chest of 84 cm and a waist of 76 cm. Red and blue have their own tables that differ by a few centimetres, and the note under the table gives their size M.

The numbers are on the small side. The wrap top and the stretch give you room, but if you are between two sizes, take the larger one. The maker gives no hip measurement, and with a skirt this wide you don't need one. On the model in heels the hem touches the floor, so the dress is meant to be worn with heels.

Styling: let the slit show the shoes

The model wears heels with clear straps and a stack of gold-tone bracelets. Because the sleeves are short, bracelets and a watch have room on the arm, which is rare for an evening dress.

With the glitter colours, keep the jewellery fine and let the fabric sparkle. The burgundy takes a bolder earring. For the light blue we would go for silver-tone sandals and hair worn loose, as a guest at a summer wedding. A small clutch is all you need to carry.

Occasions

The maker names evening outings, balls, receptions, weddings, proms and gala events. In black or navy glitter this is a gala dress. In burgundy it is made for Christmas. The light blue is the wedding-guest colour.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so go by the label sewn into the dress.

With glitter fabric, wash the dress inside out and on its own the first time. Hang a long dress high enough that the hem doesn't rest on the floor of the wardrobe.

The wow detail: the sleeves

The maker calls them butterfly sleeves, and the name fits. They are short, cut wide and left loose at the edge, so they lift a little when you move your arms. Look at the back view of the navy dress, where the model raises her hands to her hair and both sleeves spread open.
