A long glitter dress with sleeves, a wrap neckline and a slit

This long glitter dress by Numoco covers your arms to below the elbow and your legs to the ankle, and then opens in a slit at the front. The fabric is a stretch polyester with fine glitter through it, so the dress catches light without sequins.

It is 142 to 146 cm long depending on the size, runs from XS to XL and comes in twelve colours.

The piece: one dress, twelve colours

Numoco sells its occasion dresses through a Polish fashion wholesaler and states that this one is produced in Poland. Each colour has its own model number, from 177049 for the beige to 210985 for the light blue. We compared the descriptions and the photos of all twelve: it is the same dress every time.

The supplier's colour names and what you see can differ a little. Beige is a pale champagne. Marine is a sea blue with some green in it. Dirty pink is a dusty pink that leans to lilac, and grey beige sits between the two. The other eight are what they say: navy, bottle green, maroon, black, red, cornflower blue, fuchsia and light blue.

Who it's for

For you if you want an evening dress with sleeves. The 3/4 sleeve is the practical part: no shawl to hold on to and no cold arms in a draughty hall. The supplier says it suits both cooler and warmer days.

It is a close-fitting dress. The stretch helps, but the cut follows the hips and legs all the way down, so choose it if that is the line you want.

The maker does not say how the dress closes. With this much stretch it may simply pull on, but we cannot confirm that from the data.

Fabric and feel: stretch polyester with glitter

The composition is 95% polyester and 5% spandex. The supplier calls it an elastic material with glitter, and for the two newest colours speaks of a subtle shimmering brocade.

In the photos the sparkle is fine and even. It shows most on the dark colours, where navy and black look like a night sky, and it is softer on champagne and light blue. Glitter fabrics can shed a little at first; the supplier does not say whether this one does.

Fit and silhouette: close to the body, ankle length

Size M measures 86 cm at the chest, 72 cm at the waist and 88 cm at the hips, and is 144 cm long. Those numbers are small for a size M, which tells you the fabric is meant to stretch over the body. If you are between sizes, take the larger one.

The cornflower blue colour has a different table and is listed 5 to 7 cm longer. We cannot check whether that dress really is longer or the table was measured differently, so allow for it if you choose that colour.

Source: the maker's size tables. Length, chest and hips are the same for eleven colours. The waist comes from the two newest colour entries, because the older ones repeat the hip figure in the waist column. Cornflower blue has its own table: 149 to 151 cm long, chest 78 to 94 cm, waist 68 to 82 cm.

Styling: little jewellery, good shoes

The dress already sparkles, so jewellery can stay small. In the photos the model wears heeled sandals with thin straps and carries a small clutch, and that is all it needs.

The slit shows your shoes with every step, which makes them the second thing people see. Nude or metallic sandals work with every colour. With black or navy you can add one strong accent, a red lip or a bright bag.

Occasions

The supplier names weddings, banquets, New Year's Eve parties and elegant evenings. December is the obvious month for a glitter fabric, and the sleeves make sense then too.

For a wedding, the softer colours are the easy choice: dusty pink, light blue, sea blue or bottle green. Champagne beige can read as close to white in photos, so check with the couple first.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so go by the label sewn into the dress.

With glitter fabrics in general it helps to wash them inside out and apart from other clothes. That is general advice, the label decides.

The wow detail: the drape that hides the slit

At the waist the fabric is gathered to one point, and from there a loose panel falls down the front. When you stand still it covers most of the slit. When you walk it swings aside and the leg shows. So the dress looks composed in the receiving line and livelier on the dance floor, without you doing anything.
