A long lace dress with sleeves and a slit

This long lace dress by Numoco is split in two at the waist. Above it, a lace top with a V-neck and three-quarter sleeves. Below it, a plain skirt that flares to the floor and opens in a slit over one leg.

The maker's table gives a length of 149 cm. The dress is 95% polyester and 5% spandex, it is made in Poland, and it comes in ten colours from black and navy to red and cornflower blue.

Numoco is a Polish label that sells through a fashion wholesaler in Poland. Each colour of this dress has its own model number, and we read all ten descriptions. They describe the same thing: a long, elegant lace dress with a shaped neckline and a slit on the skirt.

The descriptions for the newer colours add detail. The top is made of decorative lace and follows the bust and the waist. The bottom is smooth, with a high slit. The neckline is V-shaped, and there is a second neckline at the back, which in the photos is a round cut-out in the lace below the neck.

One version differs slightly. Behind the button navy blue 2 is a model with a glossy skirt and its own size table. Everything else about it is the same.

Who it's for

For you if the invitation says long and you would rather not show your upper arms. Lace sleeves to below the elbow cover without looking heavy, and the V-neck keeps the top open.

It also suits you if you want to dance. The skirt is wide and the slit gives your legs room, so the length does not slow you down. The size range runs to XXL, with a chest of 102 cm.

Fabric and feel: lace above, smooth below

The maker gives one composition for the dress: 95% polyester and 5% spandex. The top is lace with a floral pattern. In the photos the lace on the body sits over an opaque layer, while the sleeves and the upper back are sheer.

The skirt is a smooth fabric that falls in wide, soft folds. In most colours it is matte. In the navy blue 2 version it has a clear gloss. The spandex gives the top the stretch to fit closely at the bust and waist.

Fit and silhouette: fitted top, floor-length skirt

The table below is the maker's and covers nine of the ten colours. The length is 149 cm in every size. The chest runs from 76 cm in S to 102 cm in XXL, and the waist from 62 cm to 86 cm. Mind the jump between L and XL: the chest goes from 84 cm to 94 cm.

The numbers are small for the size labels, which suggests they were measured on the dress lying flat and unstretched, so compare them with a fitted dress you own. On the models the skirt reaches the floor in heels. If you are shorter than about average, plan for higher heels or a hem.

Source: the maker's size table for nine of the ten colours. The version behind the button navy blue 2 has its own table: chest 80, 84, 88 and 92 cm for S to XL, length 148 to 150 cm. The table does not say whether these are garment or body measurements.

Styling: the dress has done most of it

In the photos the dress is worn with heeled sandals and a small clutch. The lace neckline is busy enough to skip a necklace. Earrings and a bracelet on the bare forearm are a better use of jewellery here.

Choose shoes you can walk in, because the slit shows them with every step. For a winter event, a short faux-fur jacket or a cropped blazer ends at the waist seam and keeps the line of the skirt clean.

Occasions

The supplier lists weddings, New Year's Eve, carnival balls and proms. We would add a gala or a formal dinner where long dresses are expected.

For a wedding guest, bottle green, navy and burgundy are safe and festive. Black works for an evening dress code. The beige comes close to bridal shades in some light, so check with the couple before you wear it to someone else's wedding.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data we receive has no care instructions, so please go by the label sewn into the dress.

Lace catches on rings, watch straps and zips. Take jewellery off before you dress, and store the dress on a hanger with the skirt hanging free so the folds stay soft.

The wow detail: a window in the lace

From the front the dress is covered: sleeves, a modest V, lace up to the shoulders. Turn around and there is a round opening in the lace between the shoulder blades. It is small, framed by the lace, and it is the reason to wear your hair up.
