A short blazer with one button and a deep pointed collar

This is a short, fitted blazer by Cabba that closes with a single button at the waist. The collar runs deep and ends in points, and two flaps at the hip look like pockets.

It is 60 to 62 cm long depending on the size, and it comes in sizes 36 to 46. You can order it in red and in green.

The piece: one cut, several model numbers

Cabba's description is the same for every colour: a simple jacket with one button in the middle, a deep pointed collar, and decorative patches at the front that imitate pockets. So the flaps are for show; don't plan on carrying your keys in them.

Red is model 63564. Green is where it gets confusing. The gallery shows a dark bottle green and a light lime green, and the wholesaler calls both simply "green". One of the two green models is no longer available. Going by the order of the photos, the green you can still order, our button "green 2", is the lime green. If the exact shade decides it for you, ask us before you order and we will confirm it with the supplier.

The dark green photos show the jacket with matching trousers. Those are not included.

Who it's for

For you if your wardrobe is full of dark blazers and you want one that does the opposite. A red or green jacket over black is the fastest way to look dressed for a meeting.

The cut is close and short. If you like your blazers long and loose, this is a different idea. The chest runs from 90 cm in size 36 to 112 cm in size 46.

We read that last phrase as a lining of cotton, but the maker's wording leaves room for doubt, so we quote it as it stands.

Fabric and feel: cotton with nylon and stretch

For the green jacket the maker lists 60% cotton, 35% nylon and 5% spandex. The red model has no composition in the supplier's data. The description is word for word the same, so the same fabric is likely, but we can't state it as a fact.

In the photos the cloth is smooth and matte and holds a sharp lapel. The spandex gives a little stretch across the back when you reach forward.

Fit and silhouette: short and close

The table below is the maker's. Size 38 is 60 cm long with a chest of 92 cm and an outer sleeve of 61 cm. Size 42 is 61 cm long with a chest of 100 cm. Note the step between 40 and 42: the chest goes from 94 to 100 cm, and the steps stay that large in the sizes above.

At 60 to 62 cm the jacket ends around the hip bone on most women. If you plan to wear it over a thick knit, compare the chest measurement with a blazer you own before you choose.

Styling: one colour, the rest quiet

The photos show the red jacket over a black top and black coated trousers, and the lime green over white. Both follow the same rule: the blazer is the colour, everything else steps back.

For work, try it over a white shirt with dark trousers. At the weekend, a striped T-shirt and jeans. The short length also sits well over a dress with a defined waist.

Occasions

The maker names business meetings and family events in autumn and spring. That is about right: it is a jacket for indoors and for mild days, for a presentation, a christening or a birthday lunch.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so go by the label sewn into the jacket. Structured blazers generally keep their shape longer on a broad hanger than folded on a shelf.

The wow detail: the collar

The lapels run from the neck almost down to the single button, long and pointed. That deep V is what makes a short jacket look sharp, and it leaves room for a necklace or the collar of a shirt.
