A floral print blazer with a classic cut

The cut of this floral print blazer is as classic as it gets: lapels, a single row of buttons, shoulder pads and a lining. The fabric is where it lets go, with large flowers printed all over it.

Italy Moda makes it in one size, 66 cm long, in a polyester blend with a little stretch. There are seven colourways, from soft yellow to dark blue.

Italy Moda sells this blazer through a Polish fashion wholesaler, in the jackets category. The supplier calls it a blazer of standard length with a floral print, long sleeves and classic lapels, fastened with buttons in a single row.

The colour names need sorting out, because the supplier's list and our buttons use the same few words for different prints. In the photos you see a yellow print (our button "floral"), a beige one with blue and pink flowers, a pink one, a turquoise one ("blue floral"), a dark blue one ("blue"), an olive green one ("green 2") and a light blue one ("blue 2"). Go by the photo next to each button.

Who it's for

For you if your wardrobe is mostly plain and you want one piece that changes that. A printed blazer over a white T-shirt and jeans is an outfit by itself.

It comes in one size. The chest measures 102 cm and the waist 92 cm, so it will sit loose on a small frame and closer on a medium one. If you usually wear a larger size, compare those numbers with a jacket that fits you before ordering.

The maker's text doesn't mention pockets. The flaps are visible in the photos, but we can't tell you whether there are working pockets behind them.

Fabric and feel: a printed polyester blend

The composition is 95% polyester and 5% spandex. The supplier describes the material as slightly stretchy and comfortable to wear, and the blazer is lined.

In the photos the print looks like an old woven wall hanging: big roses, peonies and leaves on a pale ground, in soft, slightly faded colours. The cloth holds the shape of the lapels and the shoulders. The maker gives no fabric weight.

Size and fit: one size, four numbers

The size table has one row. The blazer is 66 cm long, with a chest of 102 cm, a waist of 92 cm and hips of 110 cm. The waist is narrower than the chest and hips, so the blazer is shaped and not boxy.

The shoulder pads give the shoulders a clear line. On the models the hem lands at the hip and the sleeves reach the wrist. The 5% spandex gives a little room, but a one-size jacket can't suit everyone. Measure a blazer you own across the chest, double it and compare with 102 cm.

Styling: pick one colour from the print

The photos show a simple method. Take one colour out of the print and repeat it below. The pink blazer is worn with pink trousers, the olive one with olive trousers, the light blue one with cream. The rest stays plain.

The supplier suggests tailored trousers, a skirt or jeans. Jeans are the easy answer. For the office, wear it closed over a fine knit. In summer, the photos show it open over a white crop top and shorts, which works on holiday.

Occasions

The supplier names both the office and casual wear. We would add spring weddings, christenings and garden parties, where a floral blazer over a plain dress saves you from buying a whole new outfit.

It is also a good jacket for a first warm day, when a coat is too much.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so follow the label sewn into the blazer.

Lined jackets with shoulder pads in general keep their shape longest on a wide hanger, and steaming is kinder to them than pressing.
