A fitted blazer with one button and a full lining

This is a fitted blazer from Makover that closes with a single button at the waist. It is fully lined, and the buttons are decorative metal ones in a gold tone.

You can choose violet, black, green or pink, in sizes S to XXL. The maker's table gives a length of 69 cm in S and 71 cm in XXL. The trousers in the photos are a separate piece and are not part of this product.

The piece: a suit jacket you can wear on its own

Makover lists the jacket under four model numbers, 170517 to 170520, one per colour, with the same description and the same size table. The maker points to the many seams in the cut and to the decorative metal buttons, and says the jacket forms a suit with the matching pants.

In the photos you see notched lapels, one button at the waist and two flap pockets at the hip. Each flap carries its own gold-tone button, and there is one more at the cuff. Whether the pockets open or are only flaps, the maker does not say.

The violet is a strong purple with a pink undertone. The green is a dark bottle green and the pink is a pale powder shade.

Who it's for

For you if you want a blazer with a waist. The seams pull it in, so it suits you if you find straight, boxy jackets shapeless on you.

It also suits you if you like colour at work. A violet or bottle green jacket over a plain top does most of the dressing for you. With sizes up to XXL and a chest of 116 cm in the largest, the range is wider than many tailored jackets offer.

Fabric and feel: polyester with 5% spandex

The outer fabric is 95% polyester and 5% spandex. The spandex gives a fitted jacket some stretch across the back and in the elbows, which you will notice when you reach for something or drive.

In the photos the fabric is matte and smooth and holds a clean line at the lapel. The maker states that the jacket is fully lined but does not name the lining fabric.

Fit and silhouette: shaped at the waist, hip length

The chest measures 92 cm in S, 98 cm in M, 104 cm in L, 110 cm in XL and 116 cm in XXL. The length grows by half a centimetre per size, from 69 cm to 71 cm.

Compare the chest with a blazer you own, measured flat across and doubled. If you plan to wear a knit underneath, leave some room. If you wear it over a thin top and want it close, your usual size is the place to start.

Styling: with or without the suit

The photos show the full suit with pumps and a dark top or a bright green one under the pink. That works for a formal day.

On its own the jacket goes well with straight jeans and loafers, or over a slip dress. We like the pink with grey and the green with cream. Leave the button open if you want it looser, close it if you want the waist to show.

Occasions

Wear it to the office, to a job interview or to a presentation where you want to look sharp. The black is the safe choice for those.

The violet and the pink are good for a wedding as a guest, a graduation or a dinner. Because it is lined, it also works as a light outer layer on a mild day in spring or autumn.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data has no care instructions, so follow the label sewn into the jacket.

A lined jacket with metal buttons is usually happier on a wide hanger than folded. Close the button before you hang it so the front keeps its line.

The wow detail: the buttons on the pocket flaps

Most blazers keep their buttons at the front and the cuff. This one adds a gold-tone metal button to each pocket flap. It is a small military touch, and on the violet and the green it is what makes the jacket look dressed.
