These black ankle boots pair a 6 cm block heel with a soft knit cuff that sits around your ankle like a sock. You get a little height, a heel the maker describes as comfortable all day, and a boot you simply pull on: the photos show no laces, buckles or zip.

Solea makes the upper in faux leather with a fabric footbed. Sizes run from 36 to 41.

Model 222348 is sold under the Solea label through the maker's wholesale partner in Poland; the maker's own description calls the model Lisa by Gemre. It is an ankle boot with a flexible, sock-like upper around the ankle and a stable heel that adds a few centimetres.

We sell it in black. The last three photos in the gallery show a metallic bronze version, which is no longer made; they are there so you can see the shape from more angles.

In the black photos the faux leather is matte with a slightly textured finish. Above it sits a marled brown knit cuff, and a panel of the same knit runs down each side, the way the elastic does on a Chelsea boot. The block heel has a brown wood-look finish and the sole is thick and ridged.

Who they're for

For you if you want a heel in autumn but spend most of the day on your feet. The maker built the heel for stability and describes the knit upper as soft and close around the ankle without squeezing.

They suit someone who wears jeans one day and a skirt the next, and wants one pair of boots for both. Sizes run from 36 to 41, with an insole length of 23.5 cm in 36 and 26 cm in 41.

Materials: faux leather and a knit cuff

The maker lists the upper as faux leather and the footbed as fabric. In the photos the faux leather covers the foot and the heel, and the knit takes over at the ankle and down the sides, which is where a boot needs to give when you walk.

The maker gives no composition for the knit and does not name the sole material. We would rather tell you that than fill the gap with a guess.

Size and fit: go by the insole length

The maker's size table gives the insole length per size: 23.5 cm in 36, 24 cm in 37, 24.5 cm in 38, 25 cm in 39, 25.5 cm in 40 and 26 cm in 41. Take the insole out of a pair that fits you well and measure it from heel to toe.

The upper is 15 cm high, so the cuff ends just above the ankle bone on the model. The maker says the knit fits without squeezing. The size buttons show which sizes the maker can still ship.

Styling: show the cuff

The knit cuff is the part worth showing. Wear the boots with cropped straight jeans or trousers that stop just above the ankle, so the brown knit peeks out between hem and boot. With a midi skirt or a knit dress, bare legs or brown tights keep the colours warm.

The maker suggests jeans, dresses or skirts, and we agree: a camel coat, a cream jumper and these boots make an easy autumn outfit for the city.

Occasions

The maker names the city, work and meeting friends. Think of a day in the office, an afternoon of shopping, a museum visit or dinner out: places where you walk a fair bit and still want a heel.

The maker's data has no care instructions, so check for a care tag inside the boot before you clean them.

In general, faux leather only needs a damp cloth, and a knit cuff can be brushed with a soft clothes brush. Let the boots dry at room temperature, away from a heater.
