Ankle boots with block heel and a flash of gold tone

These ankle boots with block heel look quiet from the outside. Then you take a step, and the inner face of the heel catches the light, because Step in Style gave it a gold-tone mirror finish.

The heel is 7.5 cm high and the shaft is 11.5 cm. The upper is faux leather, there is a zip at the side, and a strap with a gold-tone ornament runs around the top. You can choose brown or black.

Step in Style is a footwear label we buy through a fashion wholesaler in Poland. Model 220693 is the brown boot and 220694 the black one. The supplier describes both in the same way: ankle boots on a stable column heel, decorated with a golden, mirrored element, closed with a zip, with a strap and a decorative detail at the top.

The supplier has its own marketing term for the material; we say faux leather. The attribute list is plain about it: upper and footbed are artificial leather.

In the photos the toe is softly squared and the surface is smooth and matte. The brown is a dark chocolate shade.

Who they're for

For you if you want a heeled boot you can wear to work and keep on for dinner. A block heel of 7.5 cm gives real height and a wide base to stand on.

They suit someone who likes one small shiny thing in an outfit. The mirror on the heel and the ornament on the strap are the only decoration, and both are gold-tone, so they sit well with gold-coloured jewellery.

Gold-tone describes the colour. The supplier does not say what the ornament or the mirror layer is made of, and gives no sole material.

Materials and build: faux leather inside and out

The maker lists artificial leather for the upper and for the footbed. That is all the material information there is. No lining or insulation is mentioned, so we would not count on these as deep-winter boots.

In the photos the upper holds its shape around the ankle and creases very little across the toe, and the strap sits flat against the shaft.

Size and dimensions: check the insole length

The maker gives an insole length for each size, and it is the same for brown and black. Size 36 measures 23.5 cm and size 37 measures 24.5 cm, a full centimetre more. After that each size adds half a centimetre, up to 26.5 cm in size 41.

Measure your foot standing and choose the size whose insole is slightly longer than your foot. With a squared toe your toes get a bit more width than in a pointed boot. If you are between sizes and plan to wear thick socks, the larger one is the safer pick.

Styling: show the ankle, show the heel

The detail sits on the heel, so do not bury it under wide trouser legs. Cropped trousers, straight jeans rolled once, or a midi skirt all leave the boot in view.

The brown pair is lovely with camel, cream and dark jeans blue. The black pair goes with nearly everything, and with black tights and a black dress the gold-tone heel becomes the one accent. The supplier says they work for elegant and for casual outfits, and we agree.

Occasions

Wear them to the office, to a dinner, to a birthday or to the theatre. They are dressy enough for a festive evening in December and plain enough for a Tuesday.

For long walks on cobbles a 7.5 cm heel is still a heel, block or not, so plan accordingly.

Care: no instructions from the maker

The maker's data we receive has no care instructions for these boots, and we will not make them up. If a care card comes in the box, follow it.

One thing is common sense with a mirrored heel: it shows scratches sooner than a matte one, so store the boots so the heels do not rub against each other.

From the front and the outer side these are plain dark boots. The gold-tone mirror sits on the inner face of the heel, the side that faces your other foot. So it shows when you walk, when you cross your legs, and from behind. It is a detail people notice on the second look.
