A small LED candle dressed for Halloween

This is a flameless LED candle for Halloween. The light flickers like a real flame, but there is no fire. The top is black and shaped like dripping wax, the sleeve is printed with a spooky scene, and it stands on a little saucer with a ring handle.

It is small: 7 by 8.5 cm and 34.8 g, according to the supplier. The print and the light colour are a surprise, so you receive one of the designs shown.

The piece: an old candlestick with a Halloween print

The shape borrows from the old chamber candlestick you carried up the stairs at night: a saucer at the bottom and a curled handle at the side. On top of that sit the black drip and a small amber flame tip.

The prints in the photos include spider webs, bats, a pumpkin, a haunted house and a witch, in black on white. When the candle is on, the light glows through the print in colour. We sell it without a brand, because the supplier names no maker.

The photos show a whole group of candles, a skull and a book. Those are there to show the designs and the mood. One order line is one candle.

Materials and power: ABS, and one open question

The supplier gives ABS as the material, a common hard plastic, and a weight of 34.8 g, so it is light enough for a shelf or a windowsill.

The supplier data does not say how it is powered: no battery type, no run time, and no word on whether batteries are included or where the switch is. We would rather tell you that than guess. Ask us before you order and we will check with the supplier.

Size: small enough to use a few

The supplier gives 7 by 8.5 cm and does not say which of the two is the height. Either way it is a small candle. One on its own is a detail; three or four in a row along a windowsill start to look like a scene, as in the photos.

Styling: a row in the dark

These look their part after dark, when the colours glow through the prints. Line a few up on a windowsill so people outside see them, or group them on a tray with a pumpkin and some dry branches. Because every candle comes in a random colour, a group ends up mixed, which suits Halloween.

Occasions

Halloween at home is the obvious one: a party table, a hallway for trick-or-treaters, or a child's room on the night itself. The supplier says it suits indoor and sheltered outdoor spots, so a covered porch works; keep it out of the rain.

Care: dust and dry

The supplier gives no care instructions. As general practice for small LED decorations: wipe it with a dry cloth, keep it away from water, and if it runs on batteries, take them out before you store it until next October.

The wow detail: colour through the print

Switched off, it is a black and white candle with a spooky drawing. Switched on, the light turns the white parts purple, pink, green or blue, and the black print stands out like a shadow play. You don't know which colour you will get, which is half the fun.
