These women's faux leather gloves by AT have the look of a classic dress glove: a smooth back, a neat cuff and a row of small buttons at the wrist. The supplier describes them as insulated, and the index finger carries an embroidered flower for your touchscreen.

They come in seven colours and two sizes. The composition is 50% polyurethane, 40% polyester and 10% spandex, so no animal leather is involved.

AT is an accessories label we buy through a fashion wholesaler in Poland. Each colour has its own model number and the same description: elegant gloves of insulated material combined with what the supplier calls ecological leather, with decorative buttons at the wrists and the embroidered flower on the index finger.

We call the material faux leather. The composition table shows what it is: polyurethane on a polyester base with spandex for stretch.

The photos show two surfaces. The back of the hand is smooth with a soft sheen. The palm side is a matte, suede-like fabric.

Who they're for

For you if you want gloves that look dressed with a long winter coat or a trench, and you would rather not buy animal leather. The buttons give them a slightly vintage air.

They are also for the practical among us. You can read a message, check the tram times and pay with your phone while they stay on.

The supplier says insulated and does not describe the lining. The buttons are decorative, so do not expect them to open.

Materials and feel: polyurethane, polyester and stretch

The maker lists 50% polyurethane, 40% polyester and 10% spandex. Polyurethane is the layer that gives faux leather its smooth, leather-like face. The 10% spandex is a generous share, and it helps a glove with only two sizes fit more hands.

In the photos the faux leather creases softly at the knuckles when the hand bends, which suggests a supple material.

Size: two sizes, no measurements given

The gloves come in S/M and L/XL. The supplier gives no size table and no hand measurements. The stretch in the material gives some tolerance, but we cannot give you a palm width.

Take S/M if you usually wear small or medium gloves, and L/XL for long fingers or a broad hand. If you want to be sure, ask us and we will request the measurements from the supplier.

Styling: a colour for every coat

In the photos most colours are worn with a cream trench coat, and each one changes the coat. The green and the dusty violet add colour. The cognac brown and the navy keep things classic. The wine red is shown with a dark faux fur coat and looks rich against it.

If you own one winter coat, black, navy or brown are the safe choice. If you own two, get the colour you would never pick for a coat.

Occasions

Wear them to work, to dinner, to a winter wedding or a funeral, to the theatre: any time you put on a coat and want your hands to look as finished as the rest. They are an easy gift too.

Care: follow the label

The maker's data we receive has no care instructions, so please go by the label sewn into the gloves.

Let wet gloves dry flat at room temperature. Heat from a radiator is hard on any coated material.

The wow detail: the buttons

A row of small covered buttons runs along the outer edge of the wrist, in the same colour as the glove. It is the detail that makes them read as dress gloves, and it shows every time you lift a cup or hold a handrail.
