This black waistcoat by Nife is cut like the third piece of a suit. It has a V-neck, a row of buttons and a front hem that ends in two points. It is lined, so it sits smoothly whether you wear it over a shirt or on its own.
The fabric is 74.8% polyester, 23.1% viscose and 2.1% spandex. Sizes run from 34 to 42, and the length goes from 59 cm to 62 cm.

The piece: model 185200
The supplier calls model 185200 a lined vest and leaves the rest to the photos. So that is where we looked. The front closes with a single row of buttons. On each side of the waist there is a welt pocket line. The armholes are cut in at the shoulder, and the back is plain with a straight hem.
The cut follows the waist. In the photos the model wears it buttoned, with nothing underneath, and with black trousers in what looks like the same cloth. Those trousers are a separate item.
Who it's for
For you if you like tailoring and want one piece that changes an outfit you already have. A waistcoat does that to a white shirt and jeans, and to a suit.
It is a close fit, so it suits you if you are happy to show your waist. In the table, size 38 has a chest of 94.5 cm and a waist of 87 cm.

We can't tell from the photos whether the pockets open, and the supplier does not say.
Fabric and feel: suiting cloth with a little stretch
The composition is 74.8% polyester, 23.1% viscose and 2.1% spandex. Polyester with viscose is a common mix for suiting, and the small share of spandex gives the cloth a bit of give across the back.
In the photos the fabric is matte and smooth and keeps a clean edge along the V and the points. The supplier states that the waistcoat is lined and does not say what the lining is made of.
Fit and silhouette: close to the body and short
The table below is the maker's. Size 34 is 59 cm long with a chest of 86.5 cm and a waist of 79 cm. Each size adds 4 cm to the chest and the waist, up to 102.5 cm and 95 cm in size 42. The length grows from 59 cm to 62 cm.
The table does not say whether these are garment or body measurements. A waistcoat is worn close, so we would measure a fitted jacket or waistcoat you own across the chest, double it and compare. If you plan to wear it over shirts, and you are between sizes, take the larger one.

Styling: three ways to wear one waistcoat
The supplier gives two directions: dressed up under a blazer, or sporty with black jeans and sneakers. The photos add a third, buttoned on bare skin with tailored trousers.
We like it most over a crisp white shirt with the sleeves rolled, with wide trousers and loafers. For an evening, wear it as a top with a long skirt and add a necklace that sits in the V.
Occasions
Wear it to the office, to a job interview, a dinner or a wedding where you would rather wear a suit than a dress. With jeans it also works for a Saturday in town.
Care: follow the label
The maker's data has no care instructions, so go by the label sewn into the waistcoat.
Lined tailoring generally keeps its shape longest when it hangs on a proper hanger between wears and is aired before it is cleaned.
The wow detail: the pointed front
The two points at the front hem are what make this a waistcoat in the classic sense. They dip below the waistband of your trousers and leave a small open triangle between them. It is a detail borrowed from menswear, and it draws a line down the centre of the body.
