A flat mop with a self-wringing bucket and 8 pads

This set is a flat mop, a narrow bucket and 8 microfibre pads. The bucket is the self-wringing kind: you slide the mop plate into a slot in the lid, so your hands stay out of the water.

The mop plate is about 33 x 12 cm and turns and tilts on its joint. The handle is aluminium, about 128 to 132 cm long. The bucket measures about 20 x 17 x 37 cm.

In the photos the bucket is cream with a grey lid and a grey carry handle. The lid has two slots, and the bucket below is divided into two halves. The supplier's data does not explain which slot does what. On buckets of this type one side usually holds the wash water and the other squeezes the pad as you pull the mop through.

Near the bottom of the bucket you can see two grey round caps. We sell the set without a brand, because the supplier data names no maker.

Who it's for

For you if you mop hard floors and dislike wringing a wet cloth by hand. The bucket is only about 20 by 17 cm at the base, so it also suits a home with a small cupboard for cleaning things.

With 8 pads in the set you can change to a fresh one between rooms and wash them together afterwards.

Materials and build: plastic, aluminium and microfibre

According to the supplier the bucket and the mop plate are plastic, the handle is aluminium and the pads are microfibre. The supplier does not name the type of plastic.

The supplier also makes claims about bacteria, odour and scratches. We cannot check those, so we do not repeat them. What we can tell you is what the parts are made of and how big they are.

Size and dimensions: plate, handle and bucket

The mop plate is about 33 cm wide and 12 cm deep. The handle is about 128 to 132 cm; the supplier gives that range and does not say whether the length is adjustable.

The bucket is about 20 x 17 x 37 cm. It is taller than it is wide, because the mop goes in upright. Check that 37 cm fits under the shelf where you plan to keep it.

In use: corners and the space under the sofa

The plate turns and tilts on its joint. One photo shows it folding almost flat against the handle, which is how it reaches under low furniture and into corners. Another photo shows the mop on several kinds of hard floor.

We would start in the far corner of the room and work back towards the door, changing the pad when it looks grey.

Occasions

Use it for the weekly round through the house, or for the kitchen floor after a busy dinner. It is also a sensible thing to have ready on the day you get the keys to a new home.

Care: rinse the pads, empty the bucket

The supplier gives no washing instructions for the pads. As general practice: rinse a pad after use and let it dry before you store it, and look for a care label on the pad before you put it in the washing machine. Empty the bucket, rinse it and leave the lid open so it can dry.

The wow detail: eight pads in the box

Many mop sets come with one or two pads, and then you rinse the same pad again and again. With eight you can use a fresh one for each room, keep one apart for the bathroom, and still have spares in the cupboard.
